Boss Waza Craft BD-2W Blues Driver Pedal Overview

The Boss BD-2 was originally released in 1995 as a response to the growing blues revival headed by artists such as Eric Clapton and Gary Moore. Boss realised that people were starting to look for the classic tube driven sounds of '50s and '60s valve amplifiers which could not be faithfully replicated with the more modern solid state amplifiers of the '70s and '80s and the BD-2 was born. The pedal has been in production since it's release and it's circuitry remains unchanged.

The new Boss Waza Craft BD-2W is a new take on this classic stomp-box, which faithfully recreates the sound of the BD-2 and adds some new features. Built using a refined, discrete, all-analog circuit, the BD-2W has 2 modes; 'Standard' and 'Custom'. Standard mode is the original circuit found on the BD-2 and custom mode features a new overdrive, rich in body and sustain.

The BD-2W is designed by the Boss Waza Craft Custom Shop. In Japan, the word 'Waza' means 'art and technique' and this is truly reflected in this range of stomp-box's. Each Waza Craft product is constructed using analog components, refined circuitry and incredible attention to detail in all aspects of the design. Each stomp-box is given the final sound approval by Boss Japan.

GAK's Boss BD-2W FAQ's

Q1: Is the BD-2W designed for use on Blues music only?
A:No, though it's orignal design was based around the tone of famous blues artists it works great on all styles of music and allows you to create a rich, overdrive sound which breaks up well and lets the tone of your amplifer shine.

Q2: Can I use the BD-2W as a boost pedal?
A:Yes, though not a true clean boost. Many players use the BD-2 as a boost pedal for valve amplifers by dialing back the gain and turning the master level up full. It also tightens up the low-end slightly!

Q3: How long is the battery life?
A:The BD-2W uses a 9V PP-3 type battery. Using an Alkaline battery (6LR61) will give around 32 hours of use. The BD-2W can also be powered by an optional AC adapter such as the Boss PSA.

A classic pedal made better. I love this pedal for so many reasons. It’s versatile and covers most styles of music. I use it as a boost in front of my overdrive on my amp and also use it as my main overdrive also through my clean amp. The custom switch gives you that thick bottom end to give you a wide range of tones to find your sound . Built like a tank and a great product as expected.
