Epiphone Valve Junior Hot Rod Head

The Epiphone Valve Junior Hot Rod Head guitar amp head gives you amazing, natural tube-driven tone just like the fancy boutique amps, at literally a fraction of the price! The 5-watt Valve Junior Hot Rod Head uses a single-ended Class A tube design, driven by an EL84 power tube. This little powerhouse is perfect for recording, rehearsals, and smaller gigs, and includes gain, volume, and reverb controls. In fact, it can be used as a standalone reverb unit with another amp, thanks to its dummy load output. In the studio, onstage, or in the practice room, the Valve Junior Hot Rod Head comes through with great tube tone!

Don't be fooled by the amazingly low price: The Valve Junior Hot Rod Head brings the tone. It's got a Class A design with a pair of 12AX7 preamp tubes, plus a single EL84 power tube. Five watts might not sound like much on paper, but the Valve Junior Hot Rod Head provides plenty of volume to keep up with a drummer in the rehearsal room or in smaller venues. Plus, you can use it as a standalone reverb tank with another amp, thanks to a dummy load output. Improving on the already impressive Valve Junior, this amp includes gain, volume, and reverb controls for a great range of tones at any volume. Plug this guy into your favorite cabinet (it's got 4-, 8-, and 16-ohm speaker outs), close your eyes, and you'll swear you're playing through a boutique rig.

Low-wattage tube amps used to be the among the best-kept secrets of studio guitarists, but they're quickly becoming must-have recording and rehearsal tools for string-slingers everywhere. Believe it or not, a small, low-output tube amp often sounds bigger on "tape" than its fire-breathing, high-wattage brethren! Why? It's all about putting the power tubes to work: at lower volumes, it's easier to crank up a little amp (like the Valve Junior Hot Rod Head) and make its power section "breathe" harder, imparting the tasty, sustain-generating tube compression we all know and love. Though preamp gain is a must for buzzsaw riffs, soulful, dynamic overdrive comes from the engine room of the amp. Also, being able to turn it up to 10 means you can take advantage of your guitar's volume knob for an array of tonal colours at your fingertips.
