Fender Custom Shop '51 Fat Nocaster Heavy Relic (White Blonde) Overview

Fender's fabled 'Nocaster' was actually a pre-runner to what became known as the legendary 'Telecaster'. This model actually began life in 1950 being known as the 'Broadcaster'- only to result in legal action from Gretsch (who already had the 'Broadkaster' name registered for a line of drums). So whilst Fender were deciding what to re-name their guitar they carried on production with no model designation on the headstock, just the Fender logo. Hence this brief run of guitars being known as the 'Nocaster'.

This recreation shows about as much wear as you might expect of 63 years of heavy playing! Featuring a great Heavy Relic job, two pice Ash body, one-piece Maple neck with a '65 'C' shape Strat profile, 9.5" fingerboard radius with medium-jumbo frets, 1.65" nut, Custom Shop Nocaster bridge & Seymour Duncan '59 SH-1 neck pickups and vintage bridge with Gatton saddles.

Playing wise this guitar is fantastic- the custom '65 'C' shape Strat neck profile (measuring .82" at the 1st fret) is nowhere near as deep as the original (which could be up to an inch!) but still satisfyingly chunky. The flatter fingerboard and fatter frets all help go towards the playing experience. And sound wise it is as good as you would expect- Tele bite with the smoothness of one of our favourite ever humbuckers. All in all a wonderful instrument.
