Yamaha launches NP 31 Keyboard
The Yamaha NP31 is NP11’s big brother, offering a 71-note keyboard and a larger amplification system (2 x 12 cm x 6 cm speakers powered by two powerful 6 W amplifiers). The model has touch-responsive keys, featuring Yamaha’s Graded Soft Touch to replicate the subtle weight differences between low and high register keys. Like the NP11, the NP31 used AWM technology to deliver a rich, rounded sound. Despite this improved product specification, the NP31 weighs just less than 6 kg, making it easily transportable to gigs and other venues.
The NP31 comes with 10 present voices, 4 reverb settings and optional dual/layer, enabling you to play any two voices simultaneously. A 32-note polyphony helps maintain a smooth and dynamic performance with minimal dropout. The NP31 also comes with 10 piano demo tracks, metronome, tempo range, transpose and tuning, making the model an ideal accompaniment for other instruments. A headphone socket for private playing also helps reduce outside noise, and is useful for when volume considerations need to be taken into account. For truly expressive tones, a footpedal is recommended as an optional extra. The NP31 comes with MIDI in/out and is powered by DC IN 12v.
The NP31 has a larger amplification system than its sister model, the NP11, yet retains its impressive battery life of 6 hours (powered by 6 AA batteries, LR6 or equivalent). It is therefore a great model to take to musical events where mains supply is inaccessible or impractical. Available in black and silver, the NP31 comes with a music rest and utilises Yamaha’s latest auto power-off mode, switching the keyboard off after an idle time of 30 minutes. This helps to both save energy if mains powered, and battery life if applicable.
