Zildjian Project 391 LTD Edition Crash (18in) Overview

Zildjian are pleased to introduce a Limited Edition cymbal concept from their Zildjian Sound Lab called - Project 391. Designed for drummers looking for bright, explosive and cutting sounds in a premium cymbal. Project 391 cymbals will be offered in 2014 for a limited time only.

Project 391 is Zildjian's first publicly available product crafted from B15 alloy, known for its consistency and cutting sound. A two step hand-lathing process imparts a unique surface finish that is both visually and sonically pleasing. From the Zildijan Sound Lab to your drum kit - Project 391.

Why Project 391? As this is the 391st year that Zildjian have been making cymbals, the company thought it would be appropriate to reference that milestone in this project.

Project 391 is different from other Zildjian cymbals because: The alloy is 85% copper and 15% tin, and it allowed Zildjian to use 391 years of cymbal making know how and apply it to an alloy that had different frequency range than the ZBT, ZHT and Zildjian Secret alloy. The manipulation of the metal is much like an "A". Where it starts to really differentiate is in the two-step lathing process. Zildjian called upon there knowledge of how they lathe A Customs and then polished the cymbal and went back and lathed the bottom and top again to take advantage of the smooth glossy sound of a brilliant finish cymbal and the bite and cut of a regular finish cymbal.

The reasons behind using this new alloy: This was an alloy that Zildjian had never used in cymbal making before. This alloy has more lows in the mix than what a B8 or B12 alloy could offer but still retains the cutting highs in the attack when played.

Some interesting features regarding the profile of the cymbals:

Bell shapes - The bells are a little shallower on some models comparative to an "A Zildjian model"
Hammering - Zildjian hammered the metal similar to how an "A" would be hammered
Unique lathing pattern - Itn++s a two-step lathing/buffing process. You get the glossiness of an "A Custom" and the bite of an "A
