Fender 60th Anniversary Fender Jazzmaster Daphne Blue Overview by GAK

Expected August 2018

Celebrating the 60th Anniversary of the Alt-Rock Classic, the Mighty Fender Jazzmaster. Originally bought to market in 1958 designed by Freddie Tavares to address Leo Fender's need for an affordable Jazz guitar, it boasts one of the mellowist Neck Pickup sounds out there. That, coupled with the smooth vibrato from the floating tremolo unit, made for some interesting sounds, but never really found it's feet with Jazz musicians. Instead, when coupled with the "new" Fender tube driven spring reverb, the sound of surf music was created!

By the 1970's the "top of the range" Jazzmaster hadn't caught on and could be picked up in pawn shops for next to nothing compared to a Strat or Tele. Just as New Wave broke, the likes of Television, Elvis Costello and The Cure were picking up these guitars and using them in a different way. By the time Sonic Youth, Dinosaur Junior and My Bloody Valentine got around to using them, it was about as far from Jazz as you could get.

In recent years this guitar has almost become so synonamous with "alternative" music that it's secured a place alongside the bigger brothers, Stratocaster and Telecaster. Celebrating 60 years of offset-contour-body, Fender bring to market these killer Block/Bound Neck, custom colour beauties. Get one before they're gone.

Overview by Fender

Sixty years ago, in 1958, Leo Fender introduced the Fender Jazzmaster as the top-of-the-line electric guitar. In 1966 we updated the instrument with a bound neck, block inlays, and as a special aesthetic touch, a slick-looking matching painted headstock. These stylish visual cues—as well as the rich, multi-dimensional sound—made this one of the most sought-after Jazzmaster models.

We reproduced these sterling features in the 60th Anniversary Classic Jazzmaster, adding a few modern enhancements to update this glorious instrument for the adventurous players of today. The duet of Classic Series ‘60s Jazzmaster single-coil pickups have the authentic sound that made the Jazzmaster a darling of the underground. Warm and dynamic, they have just the right amount of punch for any music.

The uber- exible control scheme includes the famous Jazzmaster lead/rhythm circuit, unleashing an unheard-of variety of easily accessible tones from a single guitar. The “C”-shaped maple neck bears a modern 9.5”-radius  ngerboard with 21 narrow- tall frets for easy playability. Other special touches on the 60th Anniversary Classic Jazzmaster include a vintage-style, 6-saddle adjustable bridge with “floating” tremolo tailpiece, vintage-style tremolo arm, tuning machines and strap buttons, synthetic bone nut, dual-wing string tree and 4-bolt neck plate.

Produced in limited quantities for 2018, the 60th Anniversary Classic Jazzmaster updates the classic 1966 model with features that modern, creative players are sure to appreciate.
