Roland TD-17KVX V-Drums Kit
"The TD-17KVX takes all the specs from the TD-17KV, but upgrades the cymbal pads to x2 2-zone CY-12C crash pads and x1 3-zone CY-13R ride pad. This is also the first kit that comes with the VH-10 hi-hat pad, which mounts/is operated by an acoustic hi-hat stand (stand not included). The TD-17 is by far our most popular range, as the module is packed full of features, but at a reasonable price tag. With all versions of TD-17, you are able to load in your own samples/layer them with internal sounds, connect to a computer to record both Audio/MIDI via USB or directly to an SD card, customise your kits with the 310 in-built sounds driven by the flagship Prismatic sound engine found on the TD-50 and powerful effects section, practice along to the inbuilt metronome and coach feature. Each variant of the TD-17 comes with the sturdy KD-10 kick pad and Roland's double ply mesh, that has a unique weave allowing it to feel/respond more like an acoustic drum head. Bluetooth technology allows you to play along to your favourite songs, connect to popular apps like Melodics and you can even record the Bluetooth Audio to an SD Card. For users wanting all the specs from the TD-17, and also need more of a presence on stage, check out the VAD-306. The TD-17 comes with a 3 year warranty on the module, 1 year for the pads and lifetime tech support with myself." GAK's Roland/Boss Product Specialist, James Purvis.
Overview By GAK
The Roland TD-17KVX is the top level varient of the TD-17 range. It is the first version that comes with upgraded CY-12C crashes, a 3-zone CY-13R and the acoustic hi hat stand operated VH-10 Hi Hat system (hi hat stand sold separately).
Roland's mesh technology has set the benchmark for all electronic drum manufacturers, many of which are now developing their own versions of mesh. The reason Roland's mesh has been so groundbreaking, is due to the fact there are 2 plys of mesh, that have a unique weave, enabling the head to be more durable and feel just like an acoustic drum head.
The TD-17 sounds are driven by the same sound engine within the flagship TD-50, named Prismatic. This sound engine is Roland's most expressive and realistic drum sounds to date. There are 310 internal sounds, which you can mix and match as much as you like across the 50 preset and 50 user kits. Not only that, with the sampling cabilities in the TD-17 module, you can load in your own sounds via an SD card and layer them with the internal sounds. This means you have endless amounts of customisation and can develop your own unique drum sound. You can then edit all of your kits using the incredibly power inbuilt effects, making the TD-17 your own studio at home or at a gig.
The Bluetooth connectivity availabe on the TD-17KV and TD-17KVX allow you to connect to your favourite Smart Device. You can stream audio, meaning you can play along to your favourite songs, and connect via MIDI to sync with numerous different apps, such us Melodics, GarageBand and the majority of MIDI capable apps on iOS or Android.
The TD-17 can be your own tutor, as it has 3 different coaching lessons and a built-in metronome, so you can keep on top of your practice.
When you’re serious about drumming, you need a kit to match your ambition. The V-Drums TD-17 series lets your technique shine through, backed up with training tools to push you further. Combining a TD-50-class sound engine with newly developed pads results in an affordable electronic drum kit that’s authentically close to playing acoustic drums – accurately mirroring the physical movement, stick coordination and hand/foot control that every drummer needs. Meanwhile, an array of built-in coaching functions will track your technique, measure your progress and increase your motivation. Becoming a better drummer is still hard work, but the TD-17 can help you get there.
Authentic playing feel and skill-building tools If you regularly play acoustic drums, you shouldn’t have to change your playing style to use an electronic drum kit. You can use the same playing techniques you’d use on an acoustic kit, without compromise, thanks to the large 12-inch snare* and a natural feeling hi-hat** that can even be mounted on an acoustic hi-hat stand. And being based on the flagship TD-50 sound engine, the sounds faithfully reproduce the character and tone of acoustic drums, with lightning fast response time. * PDX-12 12” snare pad included with TD-17KV and TD-17KVX only **VH-10 hi-hats included with TD-17KVX model only.
Great sounds lead to great performances The TD-17’s sound engine delivers a superior drumming experience thanks to Prismatic Sound Modelling technology inherited from the flagship TD-50 sound module. Begin playing and you’ll notice a wider dynamic range and dramatic tonal changes, depending on where and how hard you strike the pad. From rim shots, rolls, flams, and ghost notes on the snare to dramatic crash hits, sustained cymbal swells, and half-open position on the hi-hats along with different sounds for the bow and edge, every nuance is detailed, accurate, and ultra-smooth.
The feel of an acoustic kick drum (but quieter) A nice solid kick drum usually comes with a nice loud noise. Sometimes that’s exactly what you want, but your family or neighbours may not feel the same way. The KD-10 kick pad absorbs much of the noise thanks to its rubber cover combined with a dedicated cushion, but retains that satisfying kick drum ‘thud’ when a beater buries into a bass drum head, so it’s ideal for playing at home where loud noise may cause problems. It’s compatible with all standard kick pedals, single or double kick.
The TD-17 module includes 50 ready-to-play kits suitable for any music style, plus a wide range of easy-to-use training functions that encourage skill development and make practice fun and productive. Players can improve their time with various Coach Mode exercises, use the warm-up menu to work through a daily exercise routine, and capture progress with the onboard recorder. And by pairing their smartphone via Bluetooth, they can wirelessly stream audio from songs and video lesson content through the module and play along. The TD-17 also integrates with Melodics for V-Drums, a Windows/Mac software application that offers a growing selection of free drum lessons to develop rhythm, timing, and muscle memory.

As above, a good overall package
Exceeds expectations! Excellent kit and great sounds. Gets even better when you tweak the almost infinite options in the drum module. I watched the video for this kit on the GAK website where the Roland rep keeps saying it's a beginner's kit. I assume they are trying to protect their flagship TD50 by saying that but this feels and sounds like at least a semi-pro kit. Solid frame. Great expressivity, pads and cymbals a great to play, big snare and a great module. What's not to like? No complaints. Can't think of anything which would make it better. The bundle equipment (Hi hat stand, bass pedal, throne) are all basic but of good quality for the price. Again no complaints from me whatsoever
Fantastic value for money
Amazing, everything I wanted! Don't hesitate on this, it's worth every penny
