Adam A77X Near/Midfield Monitor overview from GAK
The A77X is Adam's ingress into horizontally designed studio monitors and it packs a formidable punch...
The A77X combines all of the powerful features and technical innovations that are found on Adam's AX-Series speakers, offering compression-free, high-detail sound reproduction and superb radiation characteristics that make it an ideal monitor for both nearfield and midfield use.
The Adam A77X features 2 x 100W 7" carbon subwoofers adjacent to a centralised Adam 50W X-ART tweeter and two spacious bass reflex ports. The result is a wide frequency response of 38 Hz - 50 kHz and a Max. SPL per pair at 1 m: ≥122 dB. The A77X's unique '2 1/2-way System' also cuts one of the A77X's 7" woofers above 400Hz, effectively preventing interference and phase cancellation across midrange frequencies. Below 400 Hz the A77X's woofers operate simultaneously and in-phase, offering dry and unstrained reproduction of the low-range.
Handmade in Berlin, the X-ART tweeters offer longer operation times with far fewer signs of operational fatigue compared to other speakers. Strength comes from the tweeters folded diaphragm, designed to keep distortion at bay, the unique X-ART membrane compresses and expands with the audio signal, whilst its larger size (2.5 times bigger than a classic tweeter) gives it an advanced dynamic range that delivers superb audio. Coupled with its own low-distortion A/B amplifier the X-ART tweeter delivers superb results.
The bass reflex ports found on the front face of the A77X below the X-ART tweeter offer clean bass reproduction with very low compression and zero distortion. The forward facing ports also allow the speakers to be position close to back walls and accommodate smaller studio and console setups.
The A77X's integrated A/B amplifier has been designed to work specifically with the X-ART tweeter and driver. The amp offers ultra-low distortion with a superb damping factor, with an internal bandwidth of over 1 MHz that provides a wide response up to 3000kHz. The result is an optimal performance of the tweeter and driver even when pushing the sound to high levels.
The A77X boasts an extremely wide stereo foundation and a brilliant stereo image, making it a superb speaker for precision mixing. The trebles and mids on the A77X reproduced with three-dimensional realism whilst the lows from two combined woofers are very large.
Finally, the build of the A77X has received as much attention as its individual components, the cabinet for example sports chambered upper corners to help minimise edge diffraction, a causing factor of phase cancellation. Furthermore, the cabinet is lined inside with a special fleece that greatly aids in maintaining internal resonance and bass reflex tuning.

This is an excellent studio monitor. I bought a mirrored pair (A and B) from GAK. There is noticeably greater mid-range detail than on my previous monitors (PMC SB2) and the bass extension is impressive, tight and defined, negating any need for separate sub monitors I am extremely pleased with the purchase.
