Just taken delivery of these so these are first impressions. I chose them because I had heard them in use and was impressed, the price point worked for me and they are lightweight so not cumbersome to lump around (being in my 50s this becomes a serious consideration!). Plugging them in at home to my Nord Stage they sound great, really clear sound and well balanced. I did need to tweak the bass end on the mixer a bit but otherwise I left the eq in the middle and it was fine. I did wonder wether to go for the 12" version but the weight decided it for me, although obviously a bigger woofer would have more grunt in the bass end. For piano and vocals, put through a mixer which is what I bought these for, these will be perfect. You couldn't use these for DJ work without a subwoofer though, and even playing MP3s in the background will probably need some eq adjustment to the bass end.

A few years ago people used to sneer at Alto products. I now use them almost exclusively as a portable solution from powered monitors to the larger full range active cabs for my work as a music promoter. Well built, reliable and powerful. Get past the snobbery of the 'old brands' - they have got complacent. There is a new contender in town at a much better price point.
