Boss KTN-100/212MKII Katana 100/212 MKII 2x12 Combo
Here’s What Boss Say:
"The Boss Katana MKII takes all the amazing features from the MKI, and takes it to the next level. We have added more effects, 10x amp voicings, a specific power amp input for amp modellers/multi-fx units and we have added the ability to link two Katana Amps together for a stereo rig. The Katana Range has become one of the most favoured amp ranges on the market, due to its incredible tone, feel and response. This is down to the analogue A/B Power Amp, which is the same type found on iconic valve amps. This means that the very heart of the amplifier reacts just like a valve amp, giving that essential breakup sound and dynamic response that they are synonymous for. Each Katana Amp can have its power output changed, meaning it is ready to be used in any playing environment you should ever need. It can be ran at gig volume, practice and bedroom volumes. You can even run it on headphones for silent practice too. You can seamlessly, and silently, integrate the Katana Range to your studio setup with just a USB connection. So no need for any mics/interfaces or messy cables! The USB connectivity also enables you to use the free editor software, Boss Tone Studio. With BTS, you can access over 60 additional effects, build perfect guitar rig, download artist patches and save additional presets to the onboard memory locations. Partner the Katana 100 2x12 MKII with an optional GA-FC Footswitch to switch Channels and control the Effects Selection, plus it has two expression inputs so you can also use any Roland/Boss Expression Pedal. You can also keep the dust off with the Boss BAC-KTN212 Amp Cover. The Katana 100MKII is also available as a 1x12 combo (KTN-100MKII). For users needing quicker access to the front panel, a custom Waza Craft speaker cone with a semi-closed back ultra-solid cabinent construction, integrated Dual Amp Expansion, selectable Effects Loop, 3-way contour dial and global EQ switch with 3 customisable curves, dedicated Solo Button, an External Speaker Output to connect to your favourite cab (8ohm or 16ohm) and a MIDI Input to sync to external gear, check out the KTN-ARTISTMKII. The Katana 100 2x12 MKII comes with a 3 year warranty when registered with Roland Backstage".
The Katana Range has become one of our firm favourite amps to suggest to bedroom players, gigging musicians, guitar teachers or guitarists of all levels, due to the sheer quality of its tone and versatility. It’s become one of our Best-Sellers and here’s why.
The Boss Katana Range has an analog A/B Poweramp, meaning it has the same innards as a valve amp. Typically a valve amp is heavy, unreliable, expensive and you can only get a great tone at high volumes. The Katana utilises the Analog A/B Poweramp to give you all the feel, warmth and dynamics that a valve amp has become famous for, and due to the adjustable Power Controls, you can amend the wattage of the amp to suit the stage, bedroom, studio or rehearsal settings. You can reduce the total power of the amp to either 0.5 of a watt, Half Power (KTN-50 25W, KTN-100 Upwards 50W) or Full Power (KTN-50MKII 50W, KTN-100MKII Upwards 100W), meaning you can still experience the tone, and more importantly the “feel” of a dimed amp, at a reasonable volume.
There are 10 different amp voicings available on the Katana MKII Range, covering all bases of what a guitar player may need. There are 5 amp voicings on the front panel - Acoustic, Clean, Crunch, Lead and Brown, and a variation of each. Clean A has the classic American-Style bright/spangly clean sound, whereas B is more punchy/sparkly like an American Deluxe combo. Crunch A responds just like a traditional Class A vintage British amplifier, whereas B contains a more modern pronounced amp voicing. The Lead A voicing is a modern American-inspired high gain amp and B is a tight modern amp for prog/modern metal music. The “Brown Sound” is the essence of the iconic tone of the late Eddie Van Halen. Brown A is similar to his classic vintage tone, where the valves of the amp are pushed to the limit, whereas B is a more modern tone version. - it’s so loud, you might as well jump! The Acoustic voicings transform the Katana into an acoustic guitar amplifier, meaning it’s not just for electric guitars! A is a more natural flat-response, whereas B has pronounced highs and lows.
As well as the 10 natural-sounding amp models within the Katana Range, there is a whopping 60+ effects to choose from, which can be fully edited with the free Boss Tone Studio software for Mac and PC. Imagine having a pedalboard with 60+ pedals at your disposal! Each Katana model can have your favourite patches stored directly to the amp (x4 KTN-50 & x8 KTN-100 Upwards), 15 effects can be stored per patch. You can also control the effects and amp models with the use of an external footswitch (FS-6 for KTN-50 and GA-FC for KTN-100 Upwards).
The Katana Range is not only a great guitar amp, but they are also packed full of technology. You can seamlessly integrate with your studio setup, as the built-in USB interface. It allows you to record the audio directly to your favourite DAW, without needing a microphone and messy cables - it’s completely hassle-free! You can use the Record Out (this will disable the internal speaker on the KTN-50MKII), to connect to a PA System for live use or run the amp into your favourite preamp. Both USB and phones/recording outputs have a Mic’d cabinet emulation, with three Air Feel types, making your Katana sound like an amp in a studio. There is a Power Amp Input for preamps, modellers (Boss GT Range), and multi-effects (Boss MEs), meaning that it will bypass the Katana preamp, so you’re not colouring the sound of the external amp models. There are Three Cab Resonance options (Vintage, Modern, and Deep), selectable in Boss Tone Studio. There are rear-panel connections, for up to two footswitches or an expression pedal, The Katana 50 is compatible with the Boss FS-6 and the Katana 100MKII uses the GA-FC. All models are compatible with all Boss Expression Pedals.

The Katana-50MKII may well be the most compact combo, however, the KTN-100MKII, KTN-100/212MKII (offering a warmer, richer and more punch tone that the 1x12), KTN-ARTISTMKII are 100W combos that each have an effects loop (for using pedals directly into the poweramp stage - ie RC Loopers, 200 Series, 500 Series and delays/modulation effects), Stereo Expand for setting up a stereo rig, Record Out/Speaker output simultaneously, presence dial optimising your overall EQ in realtime to suit any musical environment, 8 patch locations and a larger 12" speaker cone giving a richer/fuller tone.
The KTN-ARTISTMKII gives users quicker access to the front panel, a custom Waza Craft speaker cone with a semi-closed back ultra-solid cabinet construction, integrated Dual Amp Expansion, selectable Effects Loop, dedicated Solo Button, an External Speaker Output to connect to your favourite cab (8ohm or 16ohm), 3-way contour dial and global EQ switch with 3 customisable curves and a MIDI Input to sync to external gear, like the check out the Boss ES Effects Switching Systems.
More Sounds, More Versatility
The stage-class Katana MkII lineup picks up where the first generation left off, building on the same core tones and features that have made the series such a worldwide smash. If you loved the original Katana amps, you’ll love Katana MkII even more. And if you’re new to the party, get ready for sound, feel, and versatility that soars far beyond its price class.
Five Amp Characters,
Ten Overall Tones
Katana MkII’s five primary amp characters offer everything from organic vintage tones to modern high-gain sounds, plus a dedicated voice optimized for acoustic-electric guitar. The characters have now been extended with newly voiced variations, providing a wider palette of tone options to craft your personal sound.
Five Effects At Once
Katana MkII now includes five simultaneous effects categories, putting the tone-shaping power of a massive pedalboard right inside your amp. Independent Booster, Mod, FX, Delay, and Reverb sections come loaded from the factory with three variations in each, providing 15 ready-to-play effects to choose from. Connecting to BOSS Tone Studio lets you dive much deeper if you want—customize the sections with over 60 different effect types, change the order with four different chains, and much more.
Full-Throttle Sound Every Time You Plug-In
Backed by BOSS’s Tube Logic approach, Katana MkII delivers the authentic output distortion characteristics of genuine tube amplifiers, with the sound and feel becoming richer and more responsive as you turn up the volume. But unlike that classic tube amp, Katana MkII’s variable Power Control makes it easy to fly in the sweet spot without getting fired from the gig or kicked out of the house. Just throttle back the overall volume as needed to enjoy inspiring, cranked-amp sound anywhere you play, from bedroom to stage.
Amplify Your External Gear
The Katana-100 MkII rocks as a standalone amp, but it also excels as a powered cabinet for a favorite preamp, modeler, or multi-effects unit. Connecting to the rear-panel Power Amp In jack bypasses Katana MkII’s preamp and effects, letting you tap straight into the Tube Logic power section, complete with grab-and-go Power Control. And with BOSS Tone Studio, the input can be easily optimized for your particular gear with a high-pass filter and adjustable gain.
One-Touch Recall Of
One of the Katana-100 MkII’s most powerful features is the ability to store favorite amp character and effects setups in Tone Setting memories for instant recall. After you’ve dialed in a sound with the panel controls, simply save it to the desired memory with a quick button hold. Eight Tone Settings (two banks of four) are available, with fast selection right from the panel. And for hands-free operation on the gig, just connect external footswitches or the GA-FC foot controller.
Stereo Made Easy
One Katana MkII sounds great, but playing two at once is even better. The new Stereo Expand feature makes linking two amps simple, with just one regular cable needed. You’re able to control everything from the master Katana MkII, with stereo-compatible effects like chorus, delay, reverb, and others distributed across both amps for a wide, immersive sound field. Stereo Expand is supported on all 100-watt Katana MkII models.
Ready-To-Mix Direct Tones
The Katana-100 MkII features line, USB, and phones/recording outputs with mic’d cabinet emulation, letting you send mix-ready amp tones to a PA system, computer DAW, or headphones. The direct sound can be shaped with three different Air Feel settings, which are accessible from BOSS Tone Studio. Two-channel USB operation is supported, allowing you to track in true stereo with many of Katana’s modulation, EQ, delay, and reverb effects.
Compact Gig Commander
The optional GA-FC foot controller is the perfect partner for the Katana-100 MkII. It connects with a single cable, requires no external power, and features a slim, rugged profile that takes up minimal space. With six footswitches, you can directly recall Tone Settings and independently turn the five effects sections on/off. The GA-FC also supports external footswitches and expression pedals, with default assignments that include tap tempo, bank selection, foot volume, and Pedal FX. A large variety of custom assignments are available via BOSS Tone Studio, including expression pedal control of up to three parameters at once.
BOSS Tone Studio
BOSS Tone Studio has also evolved alongside the Katana MkII amplifiers. The interface has been updated with a refreshed look, and a number of parameters have been consolidated into the main screen for faster workflow. There’s also a dedicated Pedal FX category, making it easier to assign wah and pedal bend effects to a connected expression pedal. And if you’re a first-gen Katana owner, it’s possible to import your custom patches and use them all with Katana MkII.

Excellent sound and operation. Close enough to real valve sound to be unnoticeable in a band environment
Absolutely fantastic. Great product for excellent service.
