Catalinbread Valcoder Tremolo Pedal
Overview by GAK
If you’re a fan of vintage-style tremolo then look no further than the Catalinbread Valcoder. This pedal packs all the warmth, richness and three-dimensional quality of a vintage Valco-produced amp.
The Valcoder is part of Catalinbread’s Modulation series. It’s a mesmerising valve-style tremolo that can double as a harmonic booster. The Valcoder’s circuitry authentically recreates the sound of the tremolo section is classic Valco-made amplifiers - who built amps for legendary companies including Gretsch, Supro, National, Airline, Kay and Harmony.
Authentic Vintage Sound
Amps that were built by Valco have become highly sought after and collectable. When you crank up one of these amps, you experience a beautifully rich drive that dynamically reacts to your pick attack and where your volume control is set. These amps are also renowned for their bubbly, three-dimensional tremolo sound.
Thanks to an ingenious design, all-discrete circuity and the finest components, the Valcoder not only nails the sound - it replicates the feel and response too.
Two Effects In One
The Catalinbread Valcoder can double as two effects - a lush tremolo and a gritty harmonic booster. To achieve valve-style crunch, all you have to do is crank up the Input knob and turn the Depth down. Plus, using the Output knob, the Valcoder can act as a potent booster that can give your amp a kick.
Tonnes Of Variation
The Valcoder’s Tremolo controls are highly interactive and can drastically alter the Trem’s character depending on where the controls are set. There’s a tonne of Tremolo flavours to be explored here. For example, as you increase the Depth, the Tremolo gradually shifts from a percolating, bubbly warble to a rhythmic staccato.
With the Valcoder, Catalinbread have managed to capture the remarkable sound of these vintage amps and condensed it into a compact, pedalboard-ready stompbox. Plus, it’s significantly cheaper and lighter than the real deal!Every brand new Catalinbread pedal comes with a 3-year warranty, which covers defects in materials and/or workmanship.
