D'Addario ECB84 Chromes Flat Wound Bass, Long Scale, Custom Light, 40-100 Overview

D'Addario ECB84 Chromes Custom Light Long Scale Electric Bass Strings are famed for their smooth feel and warm, mellow tone. The strings are wound using an outer flattened, "ribbon" wire which is then polished to a smooth finish. Chromes deliver a deep, rich low-end tone that's ideal for jazz and R&B, but also has applications in contemporary pop music.

Marmite or vegemite? Giving a review of strings is so personal I'm not sure it has much validity. But I play Indie, Rock, Brit Pop and I find chromes are perfect.

Good strings, well balanced. Trying to find an alternative to Thomastik Infeld flats to use on Jazz basses but sadly these don't outdo the Thomastiks on any level IMHO. The tension is higher which might be to some peoples' liking, but the Thomastiks are just far easier to play over the bridge pup and surprisingly give a more vintage tone than the Chromes. I was surprised that the Thomastiks can also be set to lower action than the Chromes, considering the chromes being higher in tension. The Chromes feel slightly sticky (best way I can describe it), like they have a grip to the metal that I'm not keen on, whereas the Thomastiks and La Bellas are so smooth it's hard to enjoy the change-over. This will definitely be for some people but I can't see the benefit of these strings, for me, over Thomastiks, La Bella LTFs or 43. or Fender Flats
