Dreadbox Nymphes 6-Voice Analog Synthesizer Overview

The Dreadbox Nymphes 6-voice analog synthesizer is a complete poly synth within an ultra-compact and portable form factor that weighs less than a kilogram. When paired up with your favourite controller, the Dreadbox Nymphes is capable of generating luscious analogue tones. From punchy basses to elegant leads to evolving pads, the Dreadbox Nymphes can do it all with ease.

Rich Analogue Oscillators

At the heart of the Dreadbox Nymphes’ gorgeous sound are its rich and weighty oscillators, which includes a Wave Forming VCO, Sub Oscillator and Noise generator per voice. This solid Juno-esque architecture serves as a sweet sonic foundation for sound design. A highlight is the multi-wave VCO, which can generate a wide range of timbres by letting you smoothly transition between three waveforms - Triangle to Square (with adjustable Pulse Width) to Sawtooth. The Sub Oscillator can add instant weight and depth to your patches whilst the Noise is perfect for percussive sounds and ethereal effects.

Versatile Filter Section

The Dreadbox Nymphes’ oscillators run into a dual analogue filter section, which boasts a warm and juicy 24dB resonant low-pass filter and a 6dB non-resonant high-pass filter. The low-pass features accurate key tracking (allowing you to “play” the filter) and is great at warming up the harmonically rich oscillators. The high-pass is a handy addition that can shave off the Nymphes’ fat low-end, allowing it to sit seamlessly in a dense mix.

Deep Modulation

Dreadbox have fully kitted out the Nymphes when it comes to modulation, allowing you to craft evocative and dynamic patches with ease. In addition to the classic ADSR envelopes for the amp and filter, the Nymphes also features a global LFO (ideal for pitch/vibrato effects) and a per voice LFO. Both LFOs can be assigned to multiple parameters with different amounts for each one and offer Key Track, Fade In, Fade Out and five waveforms (Random, Square, Ramp Up Sawtooth, Ramp Down Sawtooth and Triangle). The Nymphes’ Wide Frequency LFOs can run into audio rates, making it capable of complex FM timbres.

Other assignable mod sources include Velocity, Channel (monophonic) Aftertouch and the Modulation Wheel, which let you dynamically alter your sounds for a more expressive performance.

Lush Onboard Reverb

Right at end of the Dreadbox Nymphes’ signal chain is a lush digital reverb effect. With the adjustable Size, Decay, Filter and Mix parameters, you can conjure up a wide range of ambient and spatial effects. Aside from the digital reverb, the

Immediate Interface

Using their engineering genius, Dreadbox have condensed an immediate, tactile and menu-free interface into an ultra-compact synth. They’ve achieved this using a slider-laden control scheme, with each slider having an alternate Shift function. This gives you rapid access to all of the Nymphes’ parameters from the front panel, making patch creation fluid and effortless.

Multiple Play Modes

Dreadbox’s Nymphes features six play modes - Polyphonic, Unison, Tri, Duo, Mono and Chord - which allow you to stack the voices and tailor the allocation for the type of patch you’re dialling in, whether that’s an earth-shattering unison bass, an airy 6-voice polyphonic pad or a silky mono lead. The Chord mode provides you with seven preset chords and is ideal for quick inspiration or rave-ready plucks/stabs.

Preset Recall

When you want to store a patch for later recall, you can save it to one of 49 user presets. There are also 49 factory presets which are fantastic jumping-off points for your creations.

True Portability

Output-wise, the Dreadbox Nymphes is equipped with a USB port (where the synth is powered from), a MIDI In port for hooking up an external keyboard or sequencer (a DIN5 to 3.5mm adapter is included), a main 1/4" mono jack output and a 1/8" headphones out for silent synthesis sessions. The Dreadbox Nymphes can be powered via a USB power bank (up to 50 hours with a 20,000mA bank), making it a truly portable synth that’s great for on-the-move producers and composers.

The fact that Dreadbox have packed a complete VCO-based analogue polysynth as good as this into such a compact and portable box is nothing short of astounding. If you want an inspiring and deep synthesiser that you can easily take anywhere with you, the Dreadbox Nymphes is highly recommended.
