EarthQuaker Devices Gary Automatic PWM Fuzz & Dynamic Natural Overdrive Overview

EarthQuaker Devices Gary – Automatic PWM Fuzz and Dynamic Natural Overdrive

Meet Gary, the latest creation from EarthQuaker Devices in collaboration with Lee Kiernan of Idles. Gary isn’t your typical fuzz or overdrive pedal; it’s a unique blend of pulse width modulation (PWM) fuzz and natural overdrive, offering a wide range of tones, from smooth sustain to aggressive shredding, and everything in between.

Key Features

  • Two-Sided Design: Combines PWM fuzz on the right and natural-sounding op-amp overdrive on the left.
  • Dynamic PWM Fuzz: The fuzz side features an envelope-controlled PWM, where the Yes! control adjusts the sensitivity, narrowing the pulse width as you dig in, adding an interactive, biting edge.
  • External Control: An expression pedal can control the pulse width, enabling smooth dynamic control over the fuzz.
  • Natural Overdrive: Based on the revered Gray Channel’s green channel, offering everything from a clean boost to a rich op-amp distortion with the Go control.
  • True Bypass & Silent Switching: EarthQuaker’s Flexi-Switch® Technology ensures noiseless switching with a reliable bypass.
  • Handcrafted in Akron, Ohio: Each Gary pedal is meticulously crafted with premium components for the best sound quality and longevity.

Controls Overview

  • Right Side – Fuzz (PWM):
    • Yes!: Adjusts the envelope sensitivity; set low for thick fuzz or high for biting, dynamic PWM fuzz.
    • Oosh: Master volume for the fuzz side, with significant headroom.
  • Left Side – Overdrive:
    • Go: Sets the overdrive level from clean boost to dynamic distortion.
    • That’s It: Master volume for the overdrive side.

Gary’s signal path is hardwired, with fuzz cascading into overdrive for a seamless tonal blend.
