Electro-Harmonix Attack Decay Pedal Overview

The circa-1980 Electro-Harmonix Attack Decay is a sought after prize among vintage pedal aficionados. Originally called a Tape Reverse Simulator, it’s known for producing volume and reverse swells, backward tape sounds, artificially short staccato notes and bowed instrument effects. The new Attack Decay reinterprets the classic and keeps its cool factor, but adds some modern features for convenience and enhanced functionality.

It can produce a single volume envelope like the original, or, with Poly engaged, put separate volume envelopes on each note you play. The built-in Harmonix fuzz is now a fully controllable distortion with gain, tone and volume controls. The effects loop allows the musician or sound designer to place the volume envelope onto whatever signal is present at the Return jack. Expression pedal/CV input and three user presets give the user total control over their Attack Decay!

It is an interesting pedal with a lot of different functions. Some of the sounds are brilliant and some of the sounds are kind of awful. There is a lot of experimentation to be done with it to find out what it can do. The down side is it doesn't take a 9v battery, but it does come with a DC 9.6 volt adapter which I guess is why it doesn't use a battery (the battery wouldn't be enough power). You can get some synth sounds out of it like strings or cello etc. It's kind of a borderline pedal between a synthesizer and a normal guitar pedal. I would have thought it will be interesting to use it on a keyboard as well (as long as you use a microphone attenuator lead from the keyboard to the pedal so you don't damage the electronics of the pedal).

It’s so simple and complex at the same time for sonic wizardry. I only wish there was a cheat list of set up ideas as the sound design options are massive. I got some off a video and screen shorted them. However, your imagination is the only thing holding you back.

Reissue of a classic auto volume envelope swell pedal with extra bells and whistles that were not available in the original. Does the regular monophonic volume swell but also has a polyphonic swell as well as a built in fuzz w/controls that can be added to the volume swells. Ability to switch between three different wave forms for both the rise and fall of the volume swells in mono mode-standard linear, parabolic and s-wave. You can also set it to a continuous wave so it's more like a tremolo effect. Three presets that can be saved and recalled with dedicated switches. Lotta options. Lotta bang for the buck. Reasonably priced pedal that definitely isn't a one-trick pony and is a helluva lot of fun!
