Fender American Original '60s Jazzmaster Ocean Turquoise

The Jazzmaster; idiosyncratic, elegant, unique, and possibly even quirky - it's been a long, twisting, and somewhat surprising journey for this guitar since its introduction in 1958.

The story has been told a thousand times of late; designed to be Fender's top of the range guitar - one that was aimed specifically at Jazz players - the Jazzmaster's initial sales were disappointing, and it wasn't until its later adoption by 1960s Surf bands that the JM's fortunes began to rise. Notable NYC bands would also aquire the Jazzmaster in the mid 1970s due to its (then) low resale value, and despite its initial run ending in 1980, it is here that we find the root of its late but continuing success, which has been further inspired by many influential "alternative" and "indie" artists extolling its virtues during the 1980s and 1990s. Always different, and always venturing somewhere unexpected, Fender's American Original '60s Jazzmaster has been crafted to compliment the authentic design and aesthetic with modern features. The best of both worlds? We certainly think so.

Fans of the Jazzmaster's first decade won't be disappointed; every curve and line of the super comfortable (designed specifically to be sat down with) body and neck are accurate to the historic originals, while the period correct nitro finish not only lets the Alder body breathe with its true tonal character, but also allows for uniquely personal age and wear to occur. The thick "’60s C"-shaped neck profile has been sculpted for a distinctly vintage playing feel, which when combined with Vintage-tall frets, and a 9.5” radius fingerboard (instead of the original 7.25"), provides a classically comfortable, but up-to-date feel.

Specifically voiced to produce authentic Jazzmaster tone, the Pure Vintage ‘65 Pickups sparkle, shine, and roar in a totally unique fashion - no other guitar sounds quite like this! And, the vintage spec hardware which adorns the guitar from headstock to jack socket, makes for an instrument that not only looks the part, but also plays in a way that renders it impossible to put down.

  • Alder body with lacquer finish
  • Two Pure Vintage ‘65 single-coil Jazzmaster pickups
  • “’60s C”-shaped neck profile; 9.5”-radius round-lam rosewood fingerboard
  • Floating tremolo bridge with lock button and push-in arm; vintage-style hardware
  • Includes vintage-style hardshell case

  • For Fender fans who want the authentic sound of the ‘60s, the American Original ‘60s Jazzmaster is the best way to experience the performance, style and sound from that era of innovation.

    What Fender say:

Rather than focussing on specific model years, the American Originals have cherry picked a number of features from across a certain decade and combined this with modern features such as a 9.5" Radius on the Fretboard, and 6105 style Tall Vintage frets for a lower action that won't fret-out on bends. This Vintage Modern approach combines classic old school features like thin skin Nitrocellulose Lacquer and meticulously reproduced period correct pickups with some modern electronics and neck profiles.

Originally designed to appeal to jazz guitarists with elegant appointments and sophisticated controls, the Jazzmaster found its way into the hands of musical rebels. From surf to punk and indie rock, its exible sound heralded the call of change and shaped the voice of rebellion. The American Original ‘60s Jazzmaster faithfully recreates the voice and style of this classic guitar, supplementing them with smooth, modern playability.

The wax-potted Pure Vintage ’65 Jazzmaster single-coil pickups are as period-correct as possible, from the enamel-coated coil wire to the cloth-covered output wires, fibre bobbins and alnico 5 magnets. The pickups’ pole pieces are flush-mounted just like the original. Other authentic touches include the distinctive Jazzmaster tone circuitry, vintage-tall frets, original-era body radii, vintage-style hardware— including floating tremolo with lock button and push-in arm—vintage-style hardshell case and a lacquer finish that not only lets the wood “breathe” naturally with resonant tone, it also wears in a distinctively appealing way.
