Fender American Original '60s Stratocaster Olympic White Left Hand Overview

The history of Fender's most famous instrument is one which embraces expert design, evolution, skilled craftmanship, and highly talented artists. This is the guitar that has been witness to virtually every major musical shift, event, and milestone since its introduction in 1954, and with this incredible legacy in mind, Fender's American Original '60s Stratocaster has been crafted to compliment authentic design and detail with modern features. The best of both worlds? We certainly think so.

Fans of the Strat's first historical chapter won't be disappointed; every curve and line of the slender body and neck are accurate to the historic originals, while the period correct nitrocellulose finish not only lets the Alder body breathe with its true tonal character, but also allows for uniquely personal age and wear to occur. The thick "’60s C"-shaped neck profile has been sculpted for a distinctly vintage playing feel, which when combined with the 9.5” radius fingerboard and Vintage-tall frets, provides a classically comfortable, but up-to-date feel.

Specifically voiced to produce authentic Fender tone, the Pure Vintage ‘65 Pickups will tug at the heart strings of even the most uncompromising vintage Strat aficionado, while the vintage spec hardware which adorns the guitar from headstock to jack socket, makes for an instrument that not only looks the part, but also plays in a way that renders it impossible to put down.

    What Fender say:

Rather than focus on specific model years, the American Originals have cherry-picked a number of features from across a certain decade and combined this with modern features such as a 9.5" Radius on the Fretboard, and 6105 style Tall Vintage frets for a lower action that won't fret-out on bends. This Vintage Modern approach combines classic old school features like thin skin Nitrocellulose Lacquer and meticulously reproduced period correct pickups with some modern electronics and neck profiles.

A period of change, both for Fender and for pop culture as a whole, the 1960s saw the Strat mellow slightly as it grew up. The white pickguard was updated to mint green, and the fingerboard was switched from the original maple to rosewood, adding a smoother note to the Strat’s clear, articulate voice. The American Original ‘60s Stratocaster keeps these refinements intact while adding modern feel and pickup switching to the iconic instrument that helped birth guitar rock as we know it.

The wax-potted Pure Vintage ‘65 single-coil Stratocaster pickups are as period-correct as possible, from the enamel-coated coil wire to the cloth-covered output wires, fibre bobbins and alnico 5 magnets. The thick “’60s C” neck profile and the 9.5”-radius fingerboard enhances playability. Other authentic touches include vintage-tall frets, original-era body radii, vintage- style hardware-including a six-point synchronized tremolo bridge- vintage-style hardshell case and a lacquer finish that not only lets the wood “breathe” naturally with resonant tone, it also ages in a distinctively appealing way.

Lovely sounding guitar, as you'd expect. Not the finest attention to detail from Fender. One edge of the fretboard is a little rough but does not affect playing.
