Fender American Original '70s Jazz Bass, Natural Overview

Introduced in 1960 as a "deluxe" model and sibling to the Jazzmaster, the Fender Jazz Bass came into its own during the 1970s; funk was king, disco was strutting up the street, and reggae was keeping everything deep and low - the perfect world in which this much loved instrument could blossom.

Fender had made slight changes to body style, appearance, and hardware for this new decade, which paved the way for new playing techniques such as popping and slapping; players quickly took to the improved design and its possibilities, and with its growling mids and toothy treble, the Fender Jazz Bass quickly became a firm 1970s favourite. Paying homage to this iconic instrument, the Fender American Original '70s Jazz Bass features the same Alder body design, gloss urethane finish, and U-style maple neck profile as the original, along with other excellent features such as the beautifully bound and playably 9.5" radius Maple fingerboard, vintage tall frets, and white Pearloid block inlays, and in keeping with the aesthetic, all hardware from machine heads to jack socket, stays true to the original design.

The period-correct, and 70s voiced, Pure Vintage ’75 Jazz Bass single-coil pickups feature enamel-coated coils, cloth-covered output wires, and Alnico 5 magnets, and the sound they produce can best be described as "simply glorious"; fat low end, a punchy midrange, and toothy treble — perfect for jazz, funk, soul, reggae, rock, or wherever it takes you..

    What "Fender" say:

Rather than focusing on specific model years, the American Originals have cherry picked a number of features from across a certain decade and combined this with modern features such as a 9.5" Radius on the Fretboard, and 6105 style Tall Vintage frets for a lower action that won't fret-out on bends. This Vintage Modern approach combines classic old school features like thin skin Nitrocellulose Lacquer and meticulously reproduced period correct pickups with some modern electronics and neck profiles.

Over the course of the ‘70s, the Jazz Bass entered its “teenage years,” changing its visual style and inspiring new playing techniques—such as slapping—which led directly to new, creative forms of expression. Its smooth feel and growly midrange, tempered with a bit of treble bite, made it a hero in recording sessions around the globe. The American Original ‘70s Jazz Bass updates the smooth playing feel with a modern-radius fingerboard, while retaining the classic Fender tone and style that made the Jazz Bass the tool of choice for creative bassists.

The Pure Vintage ’75 Jazz Bass single-coil pickups are as period-correct as possible, from the enamel-coated coil wire to the cloth-covered output wires, ber bobbins and alnico 5 magnets. The sleek “’70s U”-shaped neck profile and 9.5”-radius fingerboard combine for a comfortably agile playing feel. Other authentic touches include vintage-tall frets, original-era body radii, vintage- style hardware—including a four-saddle vintage- style bridge—vintage-style hardshell case.
