Fender American Professional Jazz Bass Natural Ash Overview

Fender American Professional Jazz Bass Natural Ash Overview by GAK:

New for 2017, the Fender American Professional Jazz Bass sets the new standard! Speedy, powerful and articulate, the Jazz Bass quickly carved out a niche for itself when it was released in 1960. The slim, ultra-fast neck and slick offset-waist styling made it a favourite of bassists everywhere. Funk, fusion, disco and, of course, modern rock all owe a life debt to the fantastically versatile Jazz Bass.

Developed by pickup master Michael Bump, the brand-new V-Mod single-coil Jazz Bass pickups use a carefully selected blend of alnico magnet types for balanced tone with authentic Fender sonic DNA. Designed for comfort and performance, the slim modern “C”-shaped neck profile feels just right nestled in your hand, becoming one with you, while the narrow-tall frets provide a familiar playing feel and perfect intonation. Posiflex graphite support rods run the length of the neck, adding stability to the neck while resisting warping. The redesigned tuning machines use a fluted shaft, creating the optimum break angle over the nut while keeping the string windings tight for increased sustain and enhanced tuning stability.

As soon as I picked the bass up I could feel the quality and craftsmanship. It is very well put together with high quality components. It's a USA model from California and is 'hand made'. Not another expensive production line model, someone has actually spent real time creating this bass in person. This is apparent in the choice of wood grain for both the body and the neck - which will be individual to each bass. Mine has beautiful grain patterns for both which were obviously specifically selected for their appearance. Its also a passive bass (which I prefer) and has through-body strings - improving sustain. It has a genuine bone nut and redesigned Vintage single coil pick ups which are incredibly warm but bright when needed. The HiMass Bridge also contributes to sustain and coupled with Fluted Shaft tuning machines the bass stays in tune far more than any other I've ever played (..and I've played some major brands) The neck is slim C shaped and is very easy to use. You can play chords and complex bass runs with ease. I married it up with one of the new Fender Rumble Combo's and it has a great sound. Three tone switches is all you need - no fancy pull out stuff - you can get as versatile a sound as you want. The Bass can comfortably play any genre of music but has a great warm sound for Jazz, Blues, Soul in particular. Comes complete with a heavy duty hard shell case which (from the outside) looks so rugged it could easily survive a few 'world tours' if not the occasional nuclear blast. However, Inside, it is all plush soft Lining with the usual storage compartment which is a nice square shape and good size for storing keys, tools, strings, tuner etc. And best of all, in the UK this retails at just under £1500 retail (as of March 2020) - which is an amazing price for such a high quality Fender USA pro bass, compared to some major brands offering less quality for anything up to £2000 to £2700. I love it. This one is a 'keep'. High recommended.
