Fender Artist Series Kurt Cobain Jag-Stang, Sonic Blue, Left Handed Overview

Nirvana fans rejoice! Fender have finally brought back the iconic Jag-Stang guitar as part of the 30th anniversary of Nevermind and after many years of heavy requests. Few artists have had the impact & influence of Kurt Cobian and this faithful Fender Artist series recreation of his signature guitar is a fitting tribute. The Jag-Stang has gone on to become a Fender fan favourite since it’s launch - now you can find out what makes it so special.

Designed By Kurt

Whilst Kurt Cobain became associated with a variety of guitars during his time in Nirvana, including the Fender Jaguar and Mustang, the Jag-Stang was the guitar that Cobain had the most affinity for. Before, Cobain liked certain aspects of some guitars but could never find a guitar with everything he was looking for. According to him, the Jag-Stang was the guitar that came closest to ticking all the boxes.

As you can tell by the name, the Jag-Stang is a hybrid of the Jaguar and Mustang. In 1993, Cobain took his favourite elements from each model and with the help of Fender Custom Shop, fused them together to create the Jag-Stang - a guitar with a truly unique look and sound.

Grunge Machine

The tonal core of the Jag-Stang is classic Fender - a bolt-on Maple neck attached to a solid Alder body. This provides the guitar with a natural voice that has the punchy low-end, lively mid-range and articulate highs that you’d expect from a quality Fender instrument.

Powering the Jag-Stang’s trademark potent tone are the vintage-style single-coil and custom humbucking pickups, which are perfect if you want to nail Kurt Cobain’s incendiary sound. The Jag-Stang presents a lot of tonal versatility, as you can instantly switch from a crisp single-coil tone to a raucous humbucking one. There’s individual on/off switches for each pickup and you can change their phase, giving you 4 distinct tone settings at your disposal.

Effortless Playability

The Maple neck features a very comfortable Slim “C” profile, a 7.25" and a shorter 24" scale length, making it an effortless guitar to play. The neck’s Rosewood fretboard is adorned with 21 Vintage frets, which provide an old-school feel.

Rock Solid Workhorse

If you plan on playing the Fender Artist Jag-Stang as aggressively as Kurt Cobain did, you can count on it the tuning to remain rock solid and the intonation to stay precise thanks to the rugged 6-Saddle Mustang tremolo bridge and vintage-style tuners.

True To The Original

The Fender Artist Jag-Stang guitars feature the same finishes, Sonic Blue & Fiesta Red, that were available when the original was released. It wouldn’t be a proper Kurt Cobain signature model if there weren’t left-handed versions as well, which also come in Sonic Blue and Fiesta Red.

You don’t need to be a Nirvana or Kurt Cobain fan to appreciate the uniqueness of the Fender Artist Jag-Stang. Like its designer, the Jag-Stang has a captivating voice all of its own and is a breath of fresh air in the Fender guitar line-up. If you are a Nirvana fanatic, this one is a no-brainer.
