Fender Custom Shop 1960 Precision Bass Journeyman Relic, Sonic Blue
Overview by GAK
The Fender Custom Shop are reowned for making some of the finest instruments in the world and this 1960 Precision Bass model is a reflection of their astounding craftsmanship. Featuring period-correct specs and top-notch build-quality, this is a workhorse bass with a truly vintage feel and tone.
Classic Feel & Sound
Sporting a '59 P-Bass as its foundation, this Custom Shop instrument has that sought-after quality that vintage Fenders possess. What gives this bass its “1960” moniker is its Quarter Sawn Maple neck, which features a precisely sculpted & very comfortable '60 P Bass Oval C profile. The neck has been topped with old-school Vintage Upgrade 45085 frets and a premium AAA Rosewood fretboard. Whether you’re performing classic or contemporary styles, the timeless character of this Precision Bass easily shines through.
Using a 2-piece Alder body, this Custom Shop P-Bass boasts a balanced & robust tone with crisp note definition thanks to a subtle upper-mid emphasis. The period-correct nitrocellulose lacquer finish enhances this bass’ resonance and sustain by allowing the tonewood to “breathe” and develops a unique character over time.
Authentic Vintage Look
This 1960 Precision Bass has undergone the Custom Shop’s Journeyman Relic process. This meticulous treatment gives the bass the authentic worn-in look and feel of a prized vintage instrument that’s been sparingly used and well-maintained throughout the years - a lucky discovery indeed! Compared to the Relic and Heavy Relic processes, a Journeyman Relic certainly looks like a decades-old Fender with its aged hardware & components whilst having only light checking across the body.
Classic P-Bass Tone
Bolstering the sweet natural voice of this 1960 P-Bass is the 59-62 split single-coil pickup, which delivers the quintessential Fender Precision tone that you’ve come to know and love from countless classic records. It’s beautifully simple and highly effective, with a sound that effortlessly enhances and blends into a mix.
An advantage that this Precision Bass has over one that was built in the '50s or '60s is that, whilst it has the look, playability and iconic tone of a vintage Fender, it benefits from the Custom Shop’s modern build-quality. The result is an instrument that embodies the most desirable elements of a golden-era P-Bass and can also be counted on to consistently deliver on the road or in the studio. If you need to bring that classic P Bass sound to your gig or session, a Fender Custom Shop is hard to beat.
With its crisp Sonic Blue finish and sophisticated Journeyman Relic treatment, this Custom Shop Precision Bass has a fantastic look to match its stunning tone and great playability. One thing can’t be denied about this P-Bass, it’s a masterfully crafted instrument that’ll serve you well for years to come.
