James Marshall Hendrix - the ultimate guitar innovator. An incredibly lucid left-handed player who wielded a re-strung right handed-guitar and rewrote the vocabulary of contemporary guitar playing. The unique tone provided by turning a Stratocaster upside-down perfectly complimented his idiosyncratic style and inventive technique, which in turn influenced Jimi's writing and recording approach in a magically synergistic relationship that birthed a legend, and changed the face of popular music forever.
The Voodoo Child Strat recreates the three essential elements of Hendrix’s unique configuration; most noticeable is the reversed headstock, which lengthens the distance between the nut and low-E string for a tighter playing feel, and shortens the distance between the nut and the high-E for easier bending and vibrato. Secondly, the trio of left-handed hand-wound Custom Shop ’69 Strat single-coil pickups reverse the pole piece placement, creating inspiring tone with enhanced upper harmonics and definition. And finally, reversing the angle of the bridge pickup gives it the same orientation as a left-handed Strat strung upside down - thus changing the harmonic content it receives.
