Fender Custom Shop LTD '63 Stratocaster Heavy Relic, Aged 3-Colour Sunburst

Overview by GAK

Once again, the incredible luthiers at the Fender Custom Shop have shown why they’re amongst the finest in the world with this limited-edition '63 Stratocaster. Sporting a stunning Aged 3-Colour Sunburst finish and a period-correct spec, this '63 Strat oozes authentic Golden Era charm.

Classic Feel & Sound

At the heart of this Custom Shop '63 Strat’s crisp and articulate voice is its 2-piece Alder body, which has been sculpted to a classic 1960’s shape. Alder has been a go-to Fender tonewood for decades thanks to its balanced and resonant sound. The vintage-correct nitrocellulose lacquer finish gives this Strat a timeless look whilst allowing the tonewood to resonate at its best.

Providing clarity and snap is the Quarter Sawn Maple neck, which features a comfortable '63 Strat “C” profile. The neck is adorned with a glass-like AAA Rosewood fretboard and 21 Narrow Tall 6105 frets, giving you the smooth playability that classic Fender guitars are known for.

Gorgeous Worn-In Look

What sets this Custom Shop 1963 Stratocaster from the pack is its distinctive ageing treatment, which straddles the line between a Relic and Heavy Relic. This lends this '63 Strat a unique aesthetic that is slightly more worn-in than a Relic model and not as beaten-up as a Heavy Relic. Every element of this guitar, from the exposed wood to the meticulously aged hardware, has been treated to give it the endearing charm of a beloved Strat that’s been heavily played over the years.

Iconic Strat Tone

Giving this Custom Shop Stratocaster its faithful 1960s Fender tone is its Handwound Fat '60s Strat pickups. These single-coils offer the warm lows, sweet mids and crystalline highs that you’d expect from a Fender pickup made in the early '60s. The slightly overwound design adds a low-end punch, lending these pickups a modern edge. The reverse-wound/reverse-polarity middle pickup also provides superior hum cancellation.

Modern Reliability

If you’re looking for an instrument that offers all the desirable elements of a 1963 Stratocaster with the rock-solid reliability of a modern one, this Custom Shop model is a top choice. Thanks to the Custom Shop’s world-class craftsmanship and their use of premium components, you can count on this '63 Strat to deliver exceptional tone and playability on stage or in the studio.

This limited-run Fender Custom Shop '63 Stratocaster play and sounds every bit as good as it looks! It’s a fine example of the Custom Shop’s ability to create a guitar that could’ve been built during Fender’s Golden Era.
