Fender Mustang Micro Headphone Guitar Amplifier Overview

The Fender Mustang Micro is perhaps the smallest ‘amp’ yet - combining portability with functionality to create a modern, simple headphone amplifier that’s great for beginners and pros alike. At just 15.8cm in length, you can throw the Fender Mustang Micro in your bag and take it anywhere you want.

It’s also easy to use and versatile - just plug the Mustang Micro into your guitar, connect a pair of headphones, then choose from 12 different amp models (from Fender’s flagship Mustang GTX range), 12 different effects, and use the adjustable EQ to get your preferred sound, all done without having to plug in or reach over to an amp! It even has a rotatable input plug so you can adjust the angle to make it fit better with your guitar or playing style, as well as making it even more compact when you pack it up.

The Mustang Micro has Bluetooth capabilities, allowing you to connect and play along with your favourite tracks, and a USB interface for recording output and firmware updates. It runs on a rechargeable battery that gives you 4 hours play time, making this compact little amplifier a great option for anyone that wants to practice silently, musicians who are fed up of cables, or travelling musicians that want to be able to play and adjust their sound wherever they are.

I love Fender amps. I already have their superb Tonemaster Twin Reverb and a Mustang LT25, the latter being a recent purchase from GAK. The Micro Amp is a great tool for silent practice, and I can't fault it in any way. For reference, my test setup for this review was a PRS Custom 24 into the Micro Amp using a pair of Sennheiser HD 450BT headphones for monitoring. Of course, if you happen to have a spare £400 lying around (I haven't!) then the Boss Waza-Air all-in-one system could be a better choice for some guitarists as it's wireless. However, I think I would still stick with the Micro Amp even if someone suddenly put £400 in my hands!
