Gallien-Krueger PLEX Preamp Pedal
The Gallien Kreuger Plex Bass Preamp combines 47 years of amp design experience with state of the art technology to deliver the flexibility today's musicians require. The heart of every GK product is the active 4 band “variable Q” equaliser and contour circuit that set the standard for bass tone shaping over 30 years ago. Building on this proven foundation, the PLEX features expanded filter options that allow you to further dial in your instruments unique voice. Foot switchable Compressor and Overdrive ensure your performance blends seamlessly into the band or cuts through a crowded mix and the Chromatic Tuner makes sure it’s all in tune. The ¼” output drives the front of your instrument amp or power amplifier while the DI output sends it all to the PA or recording console. Aux IN and Phones Out make the PLEX ideal for jamming along silently with your favorite tunes and the USB input/output allows pristine digital recording and re-amping capability when used with your favorite recording software.

Serious quality, even the box looks like it should have expensive aftershave in it! Its built like a tank, weighty and fully metal. It is fairly complex with so many functions but its easy to dial in some serious tones with the eq and once you've got the hang of it its intuitive to use. The voices are great not at all digital sounding and give lots of options, I wanted to recreate my 1001rb2 without dragging my amp everywhere and the 800rb setting does that convincingly. The compressor is really good too, again its complex with loads of options and I must admit ive not found the sweet spot yet but ive not had it a week! And tbh its the best overdrive ive used, its a proper overdrive not a fuzzy distortion and can be dialled right down to drive only when clipping or full on playing through a bag of gravel! The tuner is incredibly fine but the display is bright and clear so no worries there The only negatives are how bright the lights are, its great to be able to see your settings on a dark stage but its migraine bright! And the pot knobs are a bit plasticky and ive a worry ill snap them at some point, not like the pots on my amp at all. All in all its a real Swiss army knife of a preamp, really surprising how good it all is and being able to update the firmware im sure gk will add even more in the future. If you're after that gk sound you need this!
