Gibson Custom 1958 Korina Flying V, White PG, Natural Overview

This Gibson Custom 1958 Korina Flying V in Natural is an authentic replica of one of the most rare and desirable electric guitars in history.

A Rare Beast

Upon their release in 1958, the Gibson Flying V and Explorer presented a radical, space-age shape that split opinions amongst '50s guitarists. Whilst the Flying V may have been too futuristic-looking when it entered the market, it has since become one of the most iconic guitar shapes of all time and a classic Gibson instrument. Jimi Hendrix, Dave Davies of the Kinks, Keith Richards of the Rolling Stones, Nancy Wilson of Heart and Kirk Hammett of Metallica are just a handful of the legendary players who have wielded a Gibson Flying over its lifetime.

Exact Replica

The inital factory run of Flying Vs produced only 81 units, making these original guitars amongst the rarest ever made. A vintage 1958 Gibson Flying V from will hardly ever appear on the used market and when one does - it tends to go for a vast sum! This Korina Flying V is a precise recreation of that sought-after guitar, sporting the exacting detail and world-class craftmahsip that Gibson’s Custom Shop is famous for. This guitar’s authenticity is so spot-on, it’s as if you went back in a time machine and bought one brand new in '58.

Select Tonewoods

This 1958 Flying V’s period-correct 1-piece Korina body and neck give it a truly distinctive natural voice and aesthetic compared to Mahogany-crafted Gibson guitars. Korina was used as an exotic alternative to Mahogany back in the '50s and is renowned for its full, balanced tone with a characterful mid-range bark.

The solid Korina body has no weight relief, just like an old-school Flying V, which bolsters this guitar’s bold, sustain-rich sound. The 24.75" scale set-in neck is sculpted to a comfortable 1958 Flying V profile, which feels and plays as effortlessly as its vintage counterpart. The smooth 1-piece Indian Rosewood fretboard features a classic 12" radius, hide glue fit construction and 22 Reissue frets.

Custom Bucker Pickups

Providing the Gibson Custom Shop 1958 Flying V with its clear, warm and punchy plugged-in tone are a pair of Custombucker pickups. These humbuckers are historically accurate replicas of Gibson’s late '50s PAFs, delivering the richness and clarity that those hallowed pickups are known for. The dual volume, master tone and 3-way toggle switch controls can conjure up a wide variety of tonal colours, from singing Blues leads to aggressive Metal riffs.

Premium Hardware

As you’d expect from a premium instrument made by one of the leading guitar-builders on the planet, the Gibson Custom Shop 1958 Flying V is equipped with top-of-the line components and hardware. The white pickguard and gold colour of the hardware complete this guitar’s timeless look whilst the adjustable ABR-1 bridge, lacquered brass chevron tailpiece and Kluson Single Ring tuners ensure rock-solid performance. When it’s time to store or transport your 1958 Korina Flying V, you can put it in the included hard-case, which boasts a luxurious pink interior and an era-accurate brown exterior.

The authenticity and detail of this limited-edition Gibson Custom Shop 1958 Flying V is something to behold. With its gorgeous Natural nitrocellulose finish, slick playability and beautiful tone, this Flying V is guaranteed to be a highlight of your collection.
