Gibson USA 2018 Flying V, Aged Cherry Overview
Gibson USA 2018 Flying V aged Cherry Product Overview by GAKThe Flying V is a testament to Gibson's daring approach to design and innovation. Introduced back in the 1950's the Flying V was a bold leap for Gibson into the world of contemporary design and sci-fi inspired modernism, a 'High-Class Heavy Metal' machine.
The 2018 Flying V's body is constructed of solid mahogany giving it generous resonance and deep low-end. The Neck is also mahogany which is a great joy to many Gibson fans (The same all-mahogany build can be found on many of the Gibson 2018 range). Scale length rocks in at just under 25 inches with a fingerboard top material of Torrefied Granadillo. The fingerboard material is a straight grained Cuban wood hailed as "the wood that sings", to the trained ear, it gives the Flying V a slightly brighter tone than Rosewood.
With a slim taper neck, the Flying V is a petite and light-weight shred and solo machine without compromising on the overall strength and rigidity of the guitar. Combined with the unique pyramid frame of the body, the Flying V can be slung around every which way, on stage or in the studio.
The frets on the 2018 Flying V have been cryogenically treated, a process that distributes the metal in a precisely even way resulting in increased strength, durability and rust resistance.
Emulating that classic tone from the early Gibson PAF (Patent Applied For) pickups, the Flying V is equipped with Burstbucker 2, a pickup similar to that of a '57 classic PAF, brightness paired with plenty of
