Gibson Les Paul Standard '50s, Heritage Cherry Sunburst Overview

The new Les Paul Standard returns to the classic design that made it relevant, played and loved – shaping sound across generations and genres of music.

The Les Paul Standard 50’s Heritage Cherry Sunburst has a solid mahogany body with a maple top, a classic combination that delivers great sustain, heavy lows and a classic top-end sparkle. It has a rounded 50’s-style mahogany neck with a smooth rosewood fingerboard with 22 medium jumbo frets.

The Les Paul Standard 50’s Heritage Cherry Sunburst has an ABR-1 Tune-O-Matic bridge and aluminium stop bar tailpiece which provides great tuning stability. There are also vintage deluxe tuners with keystone buttons to complete the vintage look.

For pickups, it has calibrated Burstbucker 1 (neck) and Burstbucker 2 (bridge) pickups which are loaded with Alnico II magnets, audio taper potentiometers and orange drop capacitors, recreating the classic tone of a PAF. The Burstbucker 1 is slightly under-wound with medium output, providing a classic creamy tone and edge. The Burstbucker 2 is a slightly hotter’ pickup with more turns of wire, its output being closer to that of a '57 Classic. In sum, you’ll get that classic singing Les Paul tone.

To complete this classic model are amber top-hat knobs, a Graph Tech nut, trapezoid inlays, a cream pickguard and nickel hardware.

Includes a hardshell case and Gibson Accessory Kit.

It's a little underwhelming since I've always wanted a real les paul and it didn't feel any better than my Japanese epiphone. Saying that my epi has 50s wiring and pg bareknuckle pickups. The more I play it the more I do like it but there's a few things I'm not too happy about. The wiring is modern wiring. If you buy a 50s style guitar then give me 50s wiring which is now a job I will need to do on a 2k guitar. The feel of the toggle switch is a bit cheap as well. The guitar overall plays very well I just expected it to be like fenders vintage series and that gibson had finally listened to the guitar playing public and gave us a 50s standard with 50s wiring. I would give gibson a school report of improving but can do better!

This is the mutts nuts of guitars. Believe the hype and the price tag are with it. Ive played strats, but this is a whole different beast. Cannot get over how easy the thing is to play. And the tones. Wow, good to see Gibson are back!
