The SG was originally introduced as the new 'Les Paul' model in 1961 as an attempt to create a lighter, double cutaway guitar which offered better access to the higher frets. Initial sales were good, however Les Paul eventually asked for the guitar to be renamed, Gibson called the guitar the SG. The SG has been a mainstay in the Gibson lineup ever since and has been the axe of choice for touring and recording artists the world over.
The Gibson USA 2018 SG Standard is built on the foundations of this classic design and adds some modern touches to improve playability and comfort such as a slim taper neck profile, locking tuners and Gibson 61R & T late PAF reproduction pickups. The body and neck are solid Mahogany and the bound fretboard is solid Rosewood. This is a guitar ready to rock!
