The limited run Gibson USA 2016 Les Paul Classic Custom Light (also know as the Classic Custom 'Lite') is the perfect option for those who want the classic Les Paul Custom look, feel and sound but who find the weight hard to handle. Gibson have reduced the weight and increased the manageability by making the body slimmer than a regular LP. Otherwise the ingredients are as you'd expect: a Mahogany body with carved Maple top, rounded profile Mahogany neck with a Rosewood fingerboard and finished resplendent with gold hardware.
Electronics wise the 'modern classic' 490R neck pickup delivers a slight increase in the upper mids compared to a '57 Classic, for a more contemporary humbucking sound. The special Alnico II magnet gives this beauty a singing quality that delivers on demand. The bridge position 498T is high-output version of the 490T, Gibson’s 498T humbucker combines the more powerful response of an Alnico V magnet with additional matched windings on each coil, which puts the emphasis on the pickup’s upper midrange frequencies for enhanced crunch and sustain.
