Borrowing what might be a popular tonewood for lots of other established guitar makers but is pretty unusual for Gibson, the limited Swamp Ash Les Paul offers twangy, airy, sweet tones coupled with legendary Les Paul sustain. The cut is enhanced by using a one-piece rounded profile Maple neck, is topped with a thicker Rosewood fingerboard sporting 22 frets and a 12" radius. There's a Tektoid nut which is very dense and self-lubricating for great sustain and accurate return to pitch- the machineheads are vintage style keystone tuners which offer classic vintage style and precise tuning.
Electronics wise the 'modern classic' 490R neck pickup delivers a slight increase in the upper mids compared to a '57 Classic, for a more contemporary humbucking sound. The special Alnico II magnet gives this beauty a singing quality that delivers on demand. The bridge position 498T is high-output version of the 490T, Gibson’s 498T humbucker combines the more powerful response of an Alnico V magnet with additional matched windings on each coil, which puts the emphasis on the pickup’s upper midrange frequencies for enhanced crunch and sustain.
