Gibson USA Les Paul Custom Studio, Denim Blue Overview

A very cool USA-made Gibson from their vintage/modern hybrid 'S' Series featuring some tonewoods not typical on the rest of their line! The Custom Studio wouldn't be the first to feature a solid Swamp Ash body, the Swamp Ash Studio and the Voodoo series are a couple of recent models that come to mind that also used this excellent tonewood. Very resonant and with a beautiful grain it makes a great guitar. Here it has a carved top and 9-hole weight relief to make it comfortable and resonant. The glued-in neck join has a dressed away heel allowing much improved access to the upper frets.

The neck is a single piece of Maple with Gibson's Slim Taper profile, the fingerboard one-piece Rosewood. The guitar is loaded with completely new, modern, Made-in-USA, Double Slugs Alnico 5 Rhythm DS-A5 and Lead DS-A5+ humbuckers to deliver amazing quality, tone and playability and are tied to simplified controls, a single volume & tone control. TheLes paul Custom Studio features a nitrocellulose finish with a new Nitro stain on both body and neck for a gorgeous vintage look. There's a chrome ABR style bridge, Stop Bar and mini-button tuners with black top hat knobs. A 'S' Series padded gigbag is included.

Looks and plays beautifully. Maybe it is just me, but I think the intonation on the top three strings needs minor tweaking; but this is only minor.

It's a Gibson! Don't really need to say much else. Looks good, sounds great. I've done a couple of cosmetic upgrades, as Gibson haven't wasted any money on stuff like knobs and pickup surrounds. But word has it that they need the money, so it's good to support them. The guitar is a bit lighter than I'd expected, due to the chambered body, but it delivers well on sound with plenty of attack in the bridge position, and mellow notes at the neck, with mid position providing a nice blend. Nicely set up with low action and good intonation right up the fretboard. And GAK's discount helped in the value department! Five stars, no hesitation.
