Hamstead Artist 60+RT 60W Head, Black Overview

Hamstead Soundworks Artist 60+RT Head Overview by GAK:

The Hamstead Artist 60 build on the success of the acclaimed Artist 20 and beefs it up with a 60W powers stage. Like its 20W sibling it has been designed from the ground up to encompass maximum tonal versatility, without compromising on tonal quality. Delivering everything from shimmering cleans to warm, natural, harmonically rich overdriven tones. It's powerful, portable, and it loves pedals and guitars of all types.

From the warmest of mellow jazz through sparkling country cleans, to mean, gritty blues and classic rock grind, this amplifier has it covered. All with a depth, clarity and feel that allows the personality of the player and guitar to really shine through – perfect too, for all your favourite pedals & effects. The Artist 60 also features an adjustable and footswitchable 'Voice' switch that adds presence and bite to the upper midrange, and adjustable Bright switch that adds a touch of brilliance to the top end.

The Artist 60+RT includes Hamstead's signature Reverb and Tremolo circuits. The Reverb has depth and tone controls, allowing it to suit different styles of music, guitars and venues. The Tremolo has depth and speed controls, using analogue control of the signal to give a smooth, even sweep at any speed. Both are switchable on the front panel or using the included footswitch and the order in which the signal passes through these two effects can be changed to taste.

As you would expect, the Artist 60 has more headroom than the Artist 20 amp, however the 60 has a 20W mode which gives it a very similar sound to the Artist 20. There is also a 7W mode with a more 'vibey' tone which is perfect for home use. There are also external bias adjust points on the back of the amp making it tour friendly!

Every aspect of the Artist Series’ construction is of the highest quality. From the eyeleted epoxy glass boards, to the thick aluminium chassis and British made custom wound transformers, the Artist series is nothing short of world class, marrying classic and contemporary design and manufacturing techniques. All amps come with a 5 year warranty as standard.

Been a few weeks since purchase, still getting used to it, as I learn all the little nuances, the tones just keep getting better, well to my ears anyway. Certainly giving me the sound I'm after and more, amazing amp. Complements all types of guitar types and PUPs, so versatile, from clear articulate sound to my personal favourite, a smooth buttery tone. I tend to play clean with slight break-up, so haven't really pushed the gain passed noon, just wanted it to meet my perception of tone, and it has, I tend to rely on pedals for o/d sound. Haven't felt the need to use most of pedals as yet, early days. I have used a Xotic SP comp & EP boost through the amp, like hearing new improved pedals, amp supplements them and vice versa. I'm loving the bright switch. I'm pretty close to achieving my sound, so from that base point, a little tweak on the EQ, balance the Gain and Master to suit and engage bright switch selection, it provides me with a fast turnover from humbuckers to single coils to P90s. No faffing about, I get the tone I'm after for each guitar. The reverb is so open, and for a change, it's gradual and subtle, and the tone switch really does enhance the sound. I tend not to use the tremolo a lot, but this is a captivating option, definitely got that dark Louisiana swamp vibe, think I'll be using it more. I've not even mentioned the back of the amp or the provided foot switch pedal. I have set the various options on the back panel to suit my tastes. The pedal, like the amp, is of optimum quality, my first encounter with Gig-Rig technology, very impressed. A great responsive and dynamic sounding amp, relatively easy to use and solid build quality.
