Ibanez RG6UCS Prestige Uppercut, Mystic Night Metallic Flat Overview

Ibanez Prestige Uppercut RG6UCS-MYF Overview by GAK:

Ibanez have been at the forefront of modern rock guitar design for a long time and the introduction of the RG in 1987 cemented their legacy. 30 years later and 2017 sees the refinement of this classic design with this no-compromise Prestige Uppercut RG6UCS. About as close to a perfect trem-equipped modern rock guitar as you are going to get, the Ibanez Uppercut RG6UCS is stripped to the core essentials whilst exuding the class and supreme build quality you would expect from a Japanese crafted Prestige instrument. The Basswood body has an extremely well balanced tone and has a smooth, 'flat' satin finish. The Lo-Pro Edge bridge is considered by many to be the ultimate locking tremolo and tuning stability is furthered by locking studs. Also new for 2017 are upgraded stainless steel frets!

Hand-wound in UK, the Bare Knuckle Aftermath pickups deliver accelerated bass response for tracking high-speed staccato riffing, with increased focus in the mids, and superb high-end articulation; perfect for the modern metal guitarist. The Aftermath bridge humbucker features a symmetrically hand-wound twin screw coil design and is powered by 3 custom size ceramic magnets. With a more compressed dynamic, single notes have masses of sustain while the front of the note is clear-cut and defined even under extreme amounts of gain. The Aftermath neck humbucker is Alnico V powered and voiced for fat, powerful clean tones, fluid vocal-like sustain when driven hard and good balance with the bridge humbucker. As Bare Knuckle Pickups' MD Tim Mills discovered, "Ibanez were as obsessive about tone as myself and thoroughly knowledgeable about all aspects of guitar design including pickups" and he is very proud for his excellent pickups to be chosen for the Uppercut series.

The Super Wizard HP 5-piece Maple/Walnut neck has KTS™ Titanium reinforcement rods for stability. There's a genuine Ebony fingerboard which, combined with the immaculate Prestige Fret Edge Treatment on the extremely hard and smooth stainless steel frets, provides a playing experience second to none. We can't think of anything else that could improve this awesome guitar! Fitted hardshell case included.

Beautiful instrument - the finest I have ever owned - it plays and sounds like a dream. If i were being very critical, the only thing I would change is to be able to drop the trem studs lower re action. Once the lo-pro-edge is set perfectly in balance with the knife edges parallel to the body, the trem itself is actually popped up rather than flat to allow pull up. This means the action can only go so low, and given that there is no choke on higher frets I can see there is room to go lower but I can't without removing the nut shim and/or adding a neck shim, because the studs are already tight to the body. But I like action super low so for most people they wouldn't even notice this.
