Joan Cashimira Model 87 Flamenco Yellow Overview

This beautifully made instrument is ideal for the entry level - intermediate flamenco guitar player. It is loud with great balanced projection in both bass and treble positions. As with all guitars made by Cashimira, this guitar is entirely hand made in the authentic and traditional way, therefore offers outstanding value for money.
By the mid 20th century the art of playing Flamenco guitar was well defined. Sycamore, or more commonly Cypress back and sides are often used for their brighter sound and the way in which each note has a rapid rise and decay.

A low action is often used, even if it means some buzzing of the strings, to facilitate speed. A light overall construction is employed to the point of fragility to create a bright sound. The resulting instrument is much brighter and sharper in its sound.

The sustain of rosewood often muddles the sound of the fast picato and staccato runs. Wooden tuning pegs were used for economy and also to lightened the head, however modern metal machine heads are becoming the standard, due to the want of ease of accurate and fast tuning.

Typically, the flamenco guitarist will not play over or near the sound hole, but back near the bridge. The result is an aggressive treble orientated sound that's a crucial part of the flamenco style. Some flamenco players seek out guitars with rosewood back and sides rather than the traditional cypress. It is said these guitars offer the superior projection of a classical, while their lighter construction retains the bright and edgy sound of a traditional flamenco guitar.
