Boss KTN-ARTISTMKII Katana Artist MKII 100W 1x12 Combo
Here’s What Boss Say:
"The Boss Katana MKII takes all the amazing features from the MKI, and takes it to the next level. We have added more effects, 10x amp voicings, a specific power amp input for amp modellers/multi-fx units and we have added the ability to link two Katana Amps together for a stereo rig. The Katana Range has become one of the most favoured amp ranges on the market, due to its incredible tone, feel and response. This is down to the analogue A/B Power Amp, which is the same type found on iconic valve amps. This means that the very heart of the amplifier reacts just like a valve amp, giving that essential breakup sound and dynamic response that they are synonymous for. Each Katana Amp can have its power output changed, meaning it is ready to be used in any playing environment you should ever need. It can be ran at gig volume, practice and bedroom volumes. You can even run it on headphones for silent practice too. You can seamlessly, and silently, integrate the Katana Range to your studio setup with just a USB connection. So no need for any mics/interfaces or messy cables! The USB connectivity also enables you to use the free editor software, Boss Tone Studio. With BTS, you can access over 60 additional effects, build perfect guitar rig, download artist patches and save additional presets to the onboard memory locations. Partner the Katana 100 2x12 MKII with an optional GA-FC Footswitch to switch Channels and control the Effects Selection, plus it has two expression inputs so you can also use any Roland/Boss Expression Pedal. You can also keep the dust off your KTN-ARTISTMKII with the Boss BAC-KTN212 Amp Cover. The KTN-ARTISTMKII is the flagship version of the Katana Range, with quicker access to the front panel, a custom Waza Craft speaker cone with a semi-closed back ultra-solid cabinent construction, integrated Dual Amp Expansion, selectable Effects Loop, 3-way contour dial and global EQ switch with 3 customisable curves, dedicated Solo Button, an External Speaker Output to connect to your favourite cab (8ohm or 16ohm) and a MIDI Input to sync to external gear. The KTN-ARTISTMKII comes with a 3 year warranty when registered with Roland Backstage".
The Katana Range has become one of our firm favourite amps to suggest to bedroom players, gigging musicians, guitar teachers or guitarists of all levels, due to the sheer quality of its tone and versatility. It’s become one of our Best-Sellers and here’s why.
The Boss Katana Range has an analog A/B Poweramp, meaning it has the same innards as a valve amp. Typically a valve amp is heavy, unreliable, expensive and you can only get a great tone at high volumes. The Katana utilises the Analog A/B Poweramp to give you all the feel, warmth and dynamics that a valve amp has become famous for, and due to the adjustable Power Controls, you can amend the wattage of the amp to suit the stage, bedroom, studio or rehearsal settings. You can reduce the total power of the amp to either 0.5 of a watt, Half Power (KTN-50 25W, KTN-100 Upwards 50W) or Full Power (KTN-50MKII 50W, KTN-100MKII Upwards 100W), meaning you can still experience the tone, and more importantly the “feel” of a dimed amp, at a reasonable volume.
There are 10 different amp voicings available on the Katana MKII Range, covering all bases of what a guitar player may need. There are 5 amp voicings on the front panel - Acoustic, Clean, Crunch, Lead and Brown, and a variation of each. Clean A has the classic American-Style bright/spangly clean sound, whereas B is more punchy/sparkly like an American Deluxe combo. Crunch A responds just like a traditional Class A vintage British amplifier, whereas B contains a more modern pronounced amp voicing. The Lead A voicing is a modern American-inspired high gain amp and B is a tight modern amp for prog/modern metal music. The “Brown Sound” is the essence of the iconic tone of the late Eddie Van Halen. Brown A is similar to his classic vintage tone, where the valves of the amp are pushed to the limit, whereas B is a more modern tone version. - it’s so loud, you might as well jump! The Acoustic voicings transform the Katana into an acoustic guitar amplifier, meaning it’s not just for electric guitars! A is a more natural flat-response, whereas B has pronounced highs and lows.
As well as the 10 natural-sounding amp models within the Katana Range, there is a whopping 60+ effects to choose from, which can be fully edited with the free Boss Tone Studio software for Mac and PC. Imagine having a pedalboard with 60+ pedals at your disposal! Each Katana model can have your favourite patches stored directly to the amp (x4 KTN-50 & x8 KTN-100 Upwards), 15 effects can be stored per patch. You can also control the effects and amp models with the use of an external footswitch (FS-6 for KTN-50 and GA-FC for KTN-100 Upwards).
The Katana Range is not only a great guitar amp, but they are also packed full of technology. You can seamlessly integrate with your studio setup, as the built-in USB interface. It allows you to record the audio directly to your favourite DAW, without needing a microphone and messy cables - it’s completely hassle-free! You can use the Record Out (this will disable the internal speaker on the KTN-50MKII), to connect to a PA System for live use or run the amp into your favourite preamp. Both USB and phones/recording outputs have a Mic’d cabinet emulation, with three Air Feel types, making your Katana sound like an amp in a studio. There is a Power Amp Input for preamps, modellers (Boss GT Range), and multi-effects (Boss MEs), meaning that it will bypass the Katana preamp, so you’re not colouring the sound of the external amp models. There are Three Cab Resonance options (Vintage, Modern, and Deep), selectable in Boss Tone Studio. There are rear-panel connections, for up to two footswitches or an expression pedal, The Katana 50 is compatible with the Boss FS-6 and the Katana 100MKII uses the GA-FC. All models are compatible with all Boss Expression Pedals.

The Katana-50MKII may well be the most compact combo, however, the KTN-100MKII, KTN-100/212MKII (offering a warmer, richer and more punch tone that the 1x12), KTN-ARTISTMKII are 100W combos that each have an effects loop (for using pedals directly into the poweramp stage - ie RC Loopers, 200 Series, 500 Series and delays/modulation effects), Stereo Expand for setting up a stereo rig, Record Out/Speaker output simultaneously, presence dial optimising your overall EQ in realtime to suit any musical environment, 8 patch locations and a larger 12" speaker cone giving a richer/fuller tone.

THE ULTIMATE KATANA EXPERIENCE
The Katana-Artist MkII elevates the premier model in the Katana lineup with next-generation features and flexibility. Newly voiced variations for all five amp characters double your tone choices, while onboard effects categories have been expanded from three to five. Exclusive front-panel controls provide even more sound-shaping options, including a three-way Contour switch, Global EQ with three customizable curves, and a Solo boost with adjustable level. And with powerful new dual amp functionality, it’s easy to link and control two Katana-Artist MkIIs for massive, ultra-wide tones.
Refined Sound For Professional Performers
Just like its predecessor, the Katana-Artist MkII has been designed with extra detail for discerning pro players. BOSS’s custom Waza speaker puts the ultimate vintage rock sound under your fingers, while the cabinet’s wide baffle and semi-closed back provide focused, punchy tones with rich low end and big midrange fullness. In addition, every Katana-Artist MkII amp character has been specially voiced for optimum response with the speaker and cab.
Waza Speaker: Legendary Tone, Modern Power
A key element to the Katana-Artist MkII’s powerful sound is the 12-inch Waza speaker, developed by BOSS to deliver the wide dynamic response, smooth midrange, and rich harmonic overtones of the benchmark 25-watt British stack speaker from the 1960s. Through detailed analysis of original speakers and careful selection of the magnet, cone material, and other elements, the Waza speaker embodies the full mojo of this legendary speaker while boosting power capacity to 100 watts.
Expanded Amp Characters And Effects
The Katana-Artist MkII features the same core updates introduced with the Katana MkII amps. Variations are now available for the five amp characters, providing 10 different tone options to choose from. And with five simultaneous effects categories, you have the sound-shaping power of a massive pedalboard right inside your amp. Connecting to BOSS Tone Studio lets you dive much deeper if you want—customize the sections with over 60 different effect types, change the order with four different chains, and much more.
Deep Tone-Shaping Tools
On the front panel, you’ll find some exclusive features only available with the Katana-Artist MkII. A three-way Contour switch lets you shape the amp’s core tone, while three selectable Global EQ settings (adjustable in BOSS Tone Studio) are great for fine-tuning the overall sound for different guitars and styles. A foot-controllable, post-amp Solo boost function is also available, with a dedicated panel knob for fast adjustment.
Integrated Dual Amp Support
Powerful expansion features make it simple to use two Katana-Artist MkIIs together. With Dual Link, you can configure each amp with independent settings and operate them from a single GA-FC foot controller, allowing you to blend clean and dirty tones, create wet/dry setups, and more. Stereo Expand lets you use one amp as the master and the other as the slave, with onboard stereo-compatible effects like chorus, delay, and reverb distributed across both amps for a wide, immersive sound field.
Full-Throttle Sound Every Time You Plug In
Backed by BOSS’s Tube Logic approach, the Katana-Artist MkII delivers the authentic output distortion characteristics of genuine tube amplifiers, with the sound and feel becoming richer and more responsive as you turn up the volume. But unlike that classic tube amp, our variable Power Control lets you fly in the sweet spot without getting fired from the gig or kicked out of the house. Just throttle back the overall volume as needed to enjoy inspiring, cranked-amp sound anywhere you play.
One-Touch Recall Of Custom Setups
With onboard Tone Setting memories, you can store your favorite amp character and effects setups for instant recall. After you’ve dialed in a sound with the panel controls, simply save it to the desired memory with a quick button hold. Eight Tone Settings (two banks of four) are available, with fast selection right from the panel. And for hands-free operation on the gig, just connect external footswitches or the GA-FC foot controller.
Ready-To-Mix Direct Tones
Line, USB, and phones/recording outputs feature mic’d cabinet emulation, letting you send mix-ready amp tones to a PA system, computer DAW, or headphones. The direct sound can be shaped with three different Air Feel settings, which are accessible from BOSS Tone Studio. Two-channel USB audio is supported, allowing you to track in true stereo with many of the Katana-Artist MkII’s mod, EQ, delay, and reverb effects.
Compact Gig Commander
The optional GA-FC foot controller is the perfect partner for the Katana-Artist MkII—it connects with a single cable, requires no external power, and has a slim, rugged profile that takes up minimal space. With six footswitches, you can recall Tone Settings and turn the five effects sections on/off. The GA-FC also supports external footswitches and expression pedals, with default assignments that include tap tempo, bank selection, foot volume, and Pedal FX. Assignments can be customized via BOSS Tone Studio, including pedal control of up to three parameters at once.
BOSS Tone Studio Enhancements
BOSS Tone Studio has also evolved alongside the Katana MkII amplifiers. The interface has been updated with a refreshed look, and many parameters have been consolidated into the main screen for faster workflow. There’s also a dedicated Pedal FX category, making it easier to assign wah and pedal bend effects to a connected expression pedal. And if you’re a first-gen Katana owner, it’s possible to import your custom patches and use them all with the Katana-Artist MkII.

Simply stunning amp. From clear cleans with loads of head room, to genuine dial/pick in dirt (really dynamic and responsive) to crunchy stack rock to Nuno-esque metal tones with crisp and sharp bottom end to all out thrash dirt. Probably even djents, but I don’t ;) Great at genuinely neighbour-friendly volumes and loud as hell if needed. Power control works great with 0.5 W, 50 W and 100 W modes. Simply to use stand-alone, but easy to run from computer and then millions more tones available.
Perfect all in the box amp, Love it,
