Moog Claravox Centennial Theremin Overview
Moog, a company that is renowned for consistently raising the bar in their field, have announced the release of the mind-blowing Claravox Centennial - a new paradigm in theremin design. Lovingly named in tribute to the original theremin virtuosa Clara Rockmore, the Claravox Centennial is a culmination of traditional and modern features and will be the most versatile Moog Theremin in history.
One-hundred years ago, Leon Theremin debuted his eponymous instrument and changed the course of music technology forever. Since then, it’s ethereal, otherworldly timbre has been used on countless recordings and historically inspired Bob Moog to begin designing synthesisers.
The Claravox Centennial, like anything designed by Moog, looks and sounds like a premium instrument with its cloth-bound control panel, vintage-looking hardwood walnut aesthetic and innovative capabilities. Paired with the matched stand (sold separately), the Claravox Centennial is bound to become a centrepiece of any room or studio. It’s not just a beautiful instrument, it’s also a testament to Moog’s excellent craftsmanship.
The Claravox Centennial enables you to switch between “Traditional” and “Modern” performance modes. Featuring both analog heterodyne oscillators (which achieve that classic theremin sound) and versatile multimode DSP oscillators (sine, triangle, saw and wavetable) with assignable scales, quantization, octave ranges, and response curves, the Claravox Centennial will provide you with a vast amount of sonic possibilities for years to come.
Using these powerful oscillators as the foundation of its awe-inspiring sound, the Claravox Centennial’s warm sound is enhanced by its analogue wave-shaping circuit (derived from the landmark Etherwave Pro) and a built-in authentic analog BBD delay.
Despite its elegant, retro appearance, the Claravox Centennial will perfectly integrate itself into any modern setup with its MIDI, CV and USB ports. This allows tight integration with your DAW and the ability to responsively control external sound sources such as other synths.
The option to store patches using the front panel means your explorations can be saved for instant recall as well as be backed up via the free(!) Claravox Centennial software. Not only can you use the software to catalogue your unique sounds, it also provides you with access to a host of under-the-hood features that expand its capabilities.
Pre-order with GAK now for December availability as the Claravox Centennial is a limited edition piece and is guaranteed to become a sought-after collector’s item.
