Palmer MONICON XL Active Studio Monitor Controller Overview
Palmer MONICON XL Active Studio Monitor Controller
Sittign at the very top of the Palmer's Monitor Controller pile is the mighty Palmer MONICON XL. This active studio monitor controller takes control of some the most common tasks in studio life - switching between various signal sources and different monitors. Ideal for professional and home studios, the exceptionally intuitive MONICON XL has one of the most comprehensive feature sets available and is totally ready to become the nerve-centre for your studio.
The Palmer MONICON XL brings together 3 sets of inputs with not only 3 sets of dedicated monitor outputs, but also an additional Main output and Cue ouput. Each of the 3 inputs and 3 balanced outputs are selected simply with the push of a button, as is the source for the Cue outputs. There is clearly visible metering for the left and right channels and even a unique 'Correlation' meter giving you a visual indication of your mix's mono compatibility. Inputs one and two are via balanced jack and input gives you the choice of RCA phono, 3.5mm stereo mini-jack or digital input via S/PDIF. Each of the balanced monitor outputs has a dedicated gain control enabling you to accurately calibrate the performance of your various monitors, while output 3 can be used instead as a mono summed output either for mix checking or feeding out to a subwoofer. The master section features the main volume control, along with the mute, dim and talkback functions (including a built-in microphone) that you would expect from such a fully-featured unit.
The 'Main' output is best used as a direct output to a stereo recording device, while the 'Cue' output is the singel best way of feeding the mix signal out to headphone or foldback amplifiers without using up one of the monitor outputs. The Main and Cue outputs are not affected by the master volume, mute or dim functions, but the talkback function does still apply to the Cue output. In addition to all this, there are also 2 dedicated headphone outs, each with their own volume control from which you can monitor the main mix or the cue mix. Infinitely useful and ideal for smoothing your workflow, the Palmer MONICON XL features all-analogue circuitry offering absolute zero latency and no signal distortion. Unmatched in build quality, soundm or functionality at this price point, the Palmer MONICON XL is ready to be he beating heart of your studio.
