ProCo RAT 2 Distortion Pedal

inc. VAT ex. VAT

Overview by GAK

The ProCo RAT 2 Distortion Pedal was introduced in 1988 and continues to be found on countless guitarists’ pedalboards as their go-to distortion pedal. It’s used as a primary distortion pedal that’s great whether you’re playing rock, blues, punk, or jazz. The versatility means you can play soaring leads, rhythm tones, mellow twin, and get ageing English stack tones all with the same pedal. It has an indestructible steel casing, with heavy-duty footswitches, knobs, and jacks, and a sloped face so you can stomp hard on it and not worry about breaking it - this RAT was made to be stomped on. It also has glow in the dark markings on the knobs so it’s easier to see, and makes it stand out.

The RAT 2 has the RAT Filter control, which lets you roll off brittle high-end frequencies by turning it to the right, and you can let the natural brightness of your instrument shine through by turning the filter down. True bypass switching means no extra noise will get into your signal when it’s turned off.

The volume control lets you keep the level consistent with the bypassed clean tone, while the distortion control lets you get just the right amount of gain, so whether you want a fuzzy assault, a metal sound, or something in between, the RAT 2 will cater to all your distortion needs in just one pedal.

Other RAT pedals include the ProCo Fat Rat Distortion Pedal, which is a beefed-up version of the classic rat, ProCo You Dirty Rat Distortion Pedal, which adds 3dB of compression to the fuzz tone, ProCo Deucetone RAT Distortion Pedal, a two-channel unit consisting of two independent Rat units, ProCo Rat Turbo Distortion Pedal, which has over double the output of other Rat pedals, and ProCo Rat Solo Distortion Pedal, which has Asymmetrical Clipping and Scoop controls.

Overview by ProCo

The RAT2 will be your go-to distortion pedal for every gig, whether it’s rock, blues, punk, or jazz. This is the standard that all other distortion devices are measured against. Heard on thousands of recordings, it has helped define the sound of the past three decade’s most influential bands.

The beauty of the RAT2 lies in its versatility. Used as a primary distortion, it excels at arena rock rhythm tones and soaring leads. Do you have a powerful amp with too much headroom for the gig? Let the RAT2 be your dirty channel. Maybe you already love your amp’s distortion. Use the RAT2 as a boost for solos and get the extra kick you need.

The RAT2 features the legendary RAT Filter control. Turn it to the right to roll off brittle high-end frequencies. Having trouble cutting through the mix? Turn it to the left and allow the natural brightness of your instrument to shine through.

Distortion dials in the perfect amount of gain – from mild overdrive to full out fuzzy assault, and the volume control lets you dial it in just perfectly against your bypassed clean tone.

Brilliant pedal, it’s more versatile than expected but as a main distortion it’s superb, proper snarly and a decent breadth to its frequency’s.

  • Tam

punky spiky aggressive, very much a new-wave/post-punk type distortion. If that's what you're after, this is perfect

  • Dean

Awesome! Goes from rock to metal

  • Neil Bradley
