Custom 24

The Custom 24 is the archetypal guitar in the PRS arsenal. It has been on the market since 1985 and is a top seller, being used by touring artists, session musicians, gigging guitar players and aspiring musicians all over the world. The PRS Custom 24 has made a name for itself by offering incredible versatility, with the ability to perfectly sit in all genres of music. They are regarded as some of the most comfortable and best-sounding guitars around, with a signature clarity combined with a thick, wide sound.

The PRS 85/15 pickups, designed by Paul Reed Smith himself, offer crystal clear clarity, chunky warmth, and have one of the widest frequency ranges we’ve experienced on a guitar. The 5-way blade switch allows users to choose between 5 pickup positions including, Bridge humbucker, Bridge humbucker with neck single coil (in parallel), Bridge and neck humbuckers, Neck single coil with bridge single-coil (in parallel) and Neck humbucker.

The Custom 24 uses the patented Gen III tremolo system, offering perfect intonation and increased sustain. The Custom 25 typically comes with a Figured Maple carved top, lightweight Mahogany back, and a Mahogany ‘pattern thin’ neck, which provides comfort while playing, and a 24-fret Rosewood fingerboard with abalone bird inlays.

The PRS Custom 24 is also available in a range of different variations including Artist Pack upgrades, Floyd Rose tremolos, different neck dimensions and exclusive Limited Edition guitars. Each variant of PRS Custom 24 comes in a huge selection of different finishes, tops and colours.

Custom 24 35th Anniversary
Custom 24 35th Anniversary is an exclusive range that PRS has released to celebrate the innovation and influence of the renowned PRS Custom 24. The 35th Anniversary Custom 24 models cover each of its main product ranges - Core, S2, and SE, making them available at every price point, meaning everyone is able to celebrate the legacy of Paul Reed Smith’s Custom 24. It takes the fundamentals of the original while taking parts from the Paul’s Guitar. These models have a carved Figured Maple top with mahogany back and neck, 24-fret rosewood fingerboard with bird inlay, 85/15 treble and bass pickups, and a PRS patented Gen III tremolo system. See our collection of PRS Custom 24 35th Anniversary Guitars.

SE Custom 24

The SE Custom 24 (meaning ‘Student Edition’) was designed as a more affordable alternative to the American ‘Core’ guitars, yet keeping the high build quality expected from a Custom 24. The SE Custom 24 includes the 85/15 ‘S’ treble and bass pickups, which have two mini-toggle switches, allowing players to put the pickups in either humbucking or true single-coil mode. The SE has a mahogany body capped with flame maple veneer, a ‘Wide Thin’ neck with a 24-fret rosewood fingerboard, making it incredibly comfortable to play, and a PRS patented tremolo. See our collection of PRS SE Custom 24 Guitars.

S2 Custom 24

The S2 Custom 24 range is the entry-level version of the American ‘Core’ PRS series. They have the 85/15 ‘S’ treble and bass pickups with 3-way pickup selector, PRS patented tremolo and a 24-fret rosewood fingerboard with bird inlays.

S2 sits above the SE variants in the Custom 24 range, which are designed to be more affordable than the Core range. The main differences are that the neck on the S2 Custom 24 is made from mahogany and has a ‘Pattern Regular’ neck shape which is similar to the industry standard ‘C’ shape. The neck on the SE Custom 24 neck is made from maple and has a ‘Wide Thin’ shape.

Overview by PRS

The Custom 24 is the quintessential PRS guitar. This iconic instrument was the first model that Paul Reed Smith brought to the public at PRS Guitars’ first Winter NAMM show in 1985 and has been a top seller ever since. Played by internationally touring artists, gigging musicians, and aspiring players, the Custom 24 features PRS’s patented Gen III tremolo system and PRS 85/15 pickups with volume and tone controls and a 5-way blade switch. 85/15 pickups were personally designed by Paul Reed Smith to offer remarkable clarity and extended high and low end.

The Custom 24 is the original PRS. Since its introduction, it has offered a unique tonal option for serious players and defined PRS tone and playability.

For 2020, PRS has updated this model with TCI-tuned pickups and nitro over cellulose (CAB) finish.
