PRS SE Silver Sky John Mayer, Dragon Fruit, Second-Hand Overview
Comes with the gig bag.
The PRS SE Silver Sky, designed in collaboration with renowned musician John Mayer and legendary guitar builder Paul Reed Smith, initially captured the attention of the guitar world when it was first introduced in 2018. With its triple single-coil pickups and vintage-inspired features, the Silver Sky effectively combines the best elements of classic and contemporary guitar design. The SE version of this iconic model provides an affordable alternative to the US-made version, delivering versatile tones and an effortless playing experience.
The Heart of the Tone At the core of the PRS SE Silver Sky’s distinctive tone is its solid Poplar body, which offers exceptional resonance and a well-balanced tonal character. This body not only provides excellent playing comfort but also adds a touch of sophistication to the guitar’s appearance. It serves as the ideal tonal foundation for the trio of PRS 635JM “S” single-coil pickups.
Classic Playability The smooth and inviting playability of the PRS SE Silver Sky is attributed to its bolt-on Maple neck. This neck is carved to the original 635JM neck shape, shared with the US-built version, and features a traditional 25.5" scale length. The profile of this neck was meticulously designed following extensive research by Mayer and PRS, who tested a variety of vintage instruments. The result is a neck that offers the best of classic neck profiles and is incredibly comfortable to play.
The neck is adorned with a lustrous Rosewood fretboard, 22 frets, and the distinctive bird inlays that are a hallmark of PRS guitars. The fretboard’s 8.5" radius strikes a perfect balance between vintage and modern feel, appealing to players from both schools of thought.
Versatile Pickups One of the PRS SE Silver Sky’s standout features is its trio of 635JM “S” single-coil pickups, which provide a wide range of tones, from warm and melodious to aggressive and punchy. Whether you’re playing smooth blues solos straight into the amp or experimenting with various effects pedals, these pickups faithfully capture the nuances of your playing style. The 5-way pickup selector switch, along with the volume and tone controls, are thoughtfully placed for easy adjustments during live performances.
Reliable Performance The PRS SE Silver Sky is built to withstand the rigors of professional use. Its construction features an inverted headstock shape, a double-acting truss rod for easy front-access adjustments, a synthetic bone nut, vintage-style tuners, and a two-point steel tremolo bridge. Whether you’re performing on stage or recording in the studio, the PRS SE Silver Sky delivers a professional-grade instrument.
Included with the PRS SE Silver Sky is a rugged gig bag, ensuring convenient storage and protection during rehearsals, live gigs, and recording sessions.
