Roland VAD506 V-Drums Acoustic Design Kit
Roland V-Drums Acoustic Design VAD506 Kit
"The VAD506 is the flagship kit in a completely new range of electronic drums for Roland. VAD (V-Drums Acoustic Design) is the most realistic looking, and feeling, range of V-Drums to date, thanks to the new full-sized wooden shell pads, that even feature all the same chrome fittings found on an acoustic drum. Partner this with the world-famous Roland Patented dual-ply mesh heads, an entirely new trigger housing to avoid Hot Spots, thinner crash pads and the PD-140DS and CY-18DR digital pads from the TD-50, the VAD really is the closest in acoustic feel. The Midnight Sparkle finish and KD-200-MS 20" Kick Drum allow you to stand out on stage, have better-looking videos or even become a feature in your home. The VAD drums are specifically designed to reduce noise, as they have been given an extra 2 plys to reduce acoustic projection, so you can still practice at super-low volume. The weight of the pads under the stick, along with the air moving through a full-sized drum, perfectly mimic the feel of playing an acoustic drum. Not only that, the new CY-14C-T and CY-16R-T are 40% thinner than any other cymbal pad we have previously made, plus they flex and bend just like an acoustic cymbal. All great kits need to be sturdy and built ready for the road. With the new dedicated drum hardware, the DCS-10, DBS-10 and APC-10 provide near bomb-proof durability, functionality and have the classic chrome finish found on the most popular drum hardware. Both VAD 5 Series are powered by the TD-27 Module, which shares the Prismatic Sound engine found on the TD-50 Module. You can load in your own samples, plus play along to your favourite tunes with Bluetooth Audio. There is a whopping 28 channels over USB, so you can record to your preferred DAW as if you were using a multi-mic'ed Drum Kit - but with just a single cable! The VAD506 comes with a 3-year warranty on the module and 1 year on the pads and hardware when registered with Roland Backstage.”
Overview By GAK
The Roland VAD506 is the flagship V-Drums kit in their V-Drums Acoustic Design Range. VAD is for drummers that need the look, presence and feel of an acoustic drum kit, but with all the benefits of an electronic one. The shells on the VAD 5 Series are full-sized wooden shells, with chrome fittings, and come in two different configurations (the VAD506 or VAD503).
The shells have been carefully designed to share the look, weight and feel of an acoustic drum, but have reduced the acoustic projection from the shell by adding 2 additional plys as well an advance trigger housing. This trigger technology has also been optimised to remove the appearance of hot spots, so the pads can trigger without imperfections. The 10"x7" PDA100-MS, 12"x8" PDA120-MS, 14"x14" PDA140F-MS and 20"x16" KD-200-MS all come in a Midnight Sparkle finish, Roland's double-ply (triple-ply on the PDA140F-MS) mesh technology and have rubber rims to reduce sticking volume. It also features the chrome PD-140DS and CY-18DR digital pads from the TD-50, which connect via 2 of the 3 USB trigger inputs, giving you 10x the power of a typical analogue jack connected pad.
The cymbal pads on the VAD 5 Series are now 40% thinner than all previous Roland Cymbal Pads, meaning they now flex, bend and swing the same as an acoustic cymbal. The CY-14C-T and CY-16R-T could perhaps be the best cymbal pads on the market.
The VAD 5 Series is the perfect solution for drummers wanting the same stage presence as an acoustic drum, but need the benefits of an electronic one. The VAD Range can be used in the studio, for live video streaming and live performances. All great touring kits need to be built ready for the road, the DCS-10, DBS-10 and APC-10 are among the most durable, functional hardware we've come across, plus have that classic chrome finish most drummers expect.
Both VAD 5 Series kits are powered by the TD-27 Module, which shares the Prismatic Sound engine found on the TD-50 Module. Prismatic takes one instrument of a drum kit, then partners it with the multiple different elements that make up that particular sound. You can then edit and control each of these specific elements separately, keeping you in full control of your tone. For example, a snare is made up of the shell type, what drum head you are using, the snare wire type/volume, overtones, bleed from other drums, what sticks you are using along with how it has been mic'ed up and where that mic has been positioned. The immense detail you can go to on just an individual drum means you can create the most authentic drum sounds you can think of. Not only that, you can load in your own samples and layer those on top of the 700 internal sounds. You can even pitch match samples, so you could load in a recorded sample of your snare drum, pitch match it to an internal snare, and then you would have the full dynamic range to play expressively, but with your very own drum. All the sounds can be edited without menu diving, thanks to the onboard parameters that are incredibly simple to operate.
You can edit your drum sounds and samples with an incredibly powerful effects section. You can even assign your drums to have different types of reverb, room environments and microphone types with the PureAcoustic Ambience Technology. Roland have modelled some of the most famous studio rooms, microphones and typical drum environments in the world, so you can create studio-level kits without the use of any external gear. You can even make your own microphone configuration, giving your drum sound it's own voice.
The TD-27 Module also allows for Bluetooth Audio streaming, meaning you can play along to your favourite songs, run live backing tracks or even sample wireless to an SD Card. There are 3 Coaching exercises built-in, so the VAD can act as a drum tutor, plus there are onboard songs for you to play along to as well. It has an advance metronome, which covers all compound and complex time signatures, plus can be routed to headphones only for live use. to go even further, the TD-27 Module can stream 28 audio channels over USB (four analogue jack outs), so you can record to your preferred DAW as if you were using a multi-miced Drum Kit, but with just a single cable! You are also able to connect via MIDI if you wanted to trigger external hardware/software instruments.

The Ultimate V-Drums Acoustic Design Experience and TD-27 Module
The Ultimate V-Drums Acoustic Design Experience When you need the glamour and presence of a full acoustic drum set on stage—but with the convenience and control of electronic drums—the VAD506 is the perfect solution. This premium five-piece kit features wooden shells with full depth and diameter, exquisitely finished and mounted on double-braced chrome stands for a look that will have the audience convinced you’re playing acoustic drums. Roland’s advanced digital sensor technology and dynamic TD-27 Module provide the sound and response to match, making sure every stroke, ghost note, roll, and swell is fully expressed in incredible detail.
An Immersive Acoustic Drumming Experience With the impressive looks, familiar layout, and inspiring playability of a high-end acoustic kit, the VAD506 makes any drummer feel instantly at home. There’s a 14” stainless steel snare, plus 10” and 12” rack toms, a 14” floor tom, and a 20” kick constructed with full-depth wood shells, adding to the authenticity and providing genuine acoustic feel under the stick and beater. A full complement of cymbals includes a 12” V-Hi-Hat, 14” and 16” crashes (both with thin profiles and textured finishes), and an 18” ride, for superior playability and natural appearance on stage.
14” Digital Snare and 18” Digital Ride Cymbal Roland’s cutting-edge digital pad technology brings even deeper realism to the V-Drums experience. The digital snare and ride pads connect to the TD-27 module via USB cables, working together with the sound engine to deliver the most natural expression, allowing your drumming skills to be heard in incredible detail. Multiple sensors and lightning-fast processing provide amazing response, enabling you to play genuine techniques in the most natural way. Ghost notes, rim shots, and cross stick playing on the snare are precisely detected and translated, while the ride offers wide tonal range and the ability to subtly mute with just a touch of the bow or bell.
The Natural Feel of Acoustic Drums Roland’s legendary multi-ply, tension-adjustable mesh heads contribute significantly to the authentic playing feel, giving you stick rebound that’s customisable for your individual playing style. And when you bury the beater into the specially designed kick drum, you physically move air inside the shell, creating air pressure and resistance that feels remarkably like playing an acoustic kick.
Go Deeper with Prismatic Sound Modelling Derived from the flagship TD-50, the TD-27 sound module is filled with drums that live and breathe like acoustic instruments. We start by sampling the finest drums, percussion, and cymbals—both vintage and modern—in world-class recording studios. Roland’s unique Prismatic Sound Modelling is then applied to the samples, bringing them alive with proprietary behaviour modelling refined over two decades. Every time you strike a drum or cymbal, you’re not simply triggering a canned sound—you’re playing a full-bodied instrument that responds like its acoustic counterpart in every way, with an unprecedented sonic range at your command.
Create (and Craft) Your Signature Drum Kit With acoustic drums, you make the sound your own by swapping head types, adjusting the tuning, applying damping, tweaking the snare wire tension, changing out the kick beater, and more. This is all possible with the TD-27 module, allowing you to craft customised kits for any situation. Just strike a pad to select it, and then use the hands-on controls and intuitive editing tools to get the sound just how you like it. Your edits are saved automatically too, so you always stay focused on playing. It’s even possible to load your own samples and layer them with the internal sounds to personalise kits even more.
Double-Braced Chrome Drum Stands The way acoustic drums and cymbals are mounted not only projects a classic image—it also influences the playing feel. The tom pads mount on the same stands used for acoustic toms—so they feel just right when they’re hit. Newly developed thin V-Cymbals also attach to the stands with a special pivot mount, for a natural acoustic-style ‘swing’ when played. And every stand is double-braced for rock-solid stability, and easily adjusted to suit your preferred layout.
PureAcoustic Ambience Technology New PureAcoustic Ambience Technology optimises each kit, creating an incredibly natural and immersive sound field when playing. But you can go deeper too, and adjust the mic position on each drum kit, and dial in the overall sound with the newly developed overhead mic simulator. Finally, advanced onboard multi-effects and mixing capabilities give you the power of a full-scale studio console, with transient, parametric EQs, compressors, reverbs, delays, and more at your command.
Powerful Connectivity for Stage and Studio The VAD506 delivers fantastic sound for live performance or recording, thanks to a wealth of connectivity options. The TD-27 module features stereo outputs for the overall drum sound, plus two direct outputs for sending kick, snare, and other sounds to an audio console for independent mixing. In the studio, the built-in USB audio interface makes computer music production easy, with up to 28 audio channels available over a single cable. MIDI is also supported via USB and dedicated I/O, allowing you to sync with other MIDI devices and trigger sounds in computer software.
Kit Expansion Made Easy With the VAD506, you’re not stuck with a static setup. Using the TD-27 module’s three auxiliary trigger inputs, it’s easy to add tom and cymbal pads to bolster your arsenal. Or you may go for maximum impact with an imposing double-kick setup. Whatever you’re thinking, the auxiliary trigger inputs are the gateway to your ideal drum setup. Please note, the kit does not come with a Hi Hat stand, Bass Drum pedal or Snare stand, if required, they will need to be purchased separately, Please see our VAD506 bundles for best prices.

I still have my Yamaha DTX950K, and when I bought it, it was probably the best there was. However, compared to my new Roland VAD506...well, there is no comparison. It feels almost like an acoustic set...what else can I say... It looks amazing.
