SolidGoldFX EM-III Multi-Head Octave Echo Pedal Overview
The SolidGoldFX EM-III Multi-Head Octave Echo pedal is the most powerful, versatile and compact SolidGoldFX pedal so far.
The EM-III Multi-Head Octave Echo builds on SGFX’s Electroman Delay legacy and has a wide-ranging and intuitive control set, warm analogue-voiced echos, modern and precise delay, and experimental sound designs from the future, all in an easy-to-use compact pedal.
The EM-III has a multi-head tape-style echo and the ability to add in a signal an octave lower to the primary delay head, which provides dancing, rhythmic delays with body and depth, as well as strong, washy soundscapes.
The octave and delay are controlled with a single mini-toggle - flick it Left to select 1, 2 or 3 delay heads or flick it Right to toggle the octave effect on and off. Then you can set the delay level, repeats and time with the knobs or you can tap in the tempo you want with the soft-click tap tempo switch.
The EM-III also boasts delay modulation that’s engaged with the Flutter control. Turning it left delivers a slow, dreamy chorus, and turning it right delivers a faster vibrato. Combined it provides a range of sounds, from lush ethereal movements, beautiful dissonance and tape-style crinkles.
The Colour knob lets you engage both high-pass and low-pass filtering - turn it left and you cut the highs which creates warm, murky analogue-style repeats, and turning it right cuts the lows and delivers crisp, bright tape-style repeats. Keeping it at noon delivers a crisp full-frequency digital delay.
By holding either Tap, Bypass or both at the same time, you can get interactive Warp and Glitch features. When you hold the Tap, it will increase the repeats until self-oscillation to create a swelling wall of sound. When you hold Bypass, it replicates the sound of a tape motor on the fritz and a tape reel snapping.
The SolidGoldFX EM-III also has soft-touch, relay-based true bypass switching, with the option for buffered tails, top jacks, and from 70 to 1000mS of delay. It comes with top-mounted jacks so it’s still easy to use if you mount it to your pedalboard
In sum, this pedal is great for a wide range of tones, from a bright, cheerful dreamy tone, to a tense, dark sound.
