Squier Vintage Modified Bass VI, Olympic White Overview

Squier Vintage Modified Bass VI, Olympic White Product Overview by GAK

The Squier Vintage Modified Bass VI is a six-string bass guitar and a reissue of a long-vanished Fender classic of 1961-1975. This model retains the authentically vintage-style look and distinct tone loved by a number of renowned bands from The Beatles to the Cure. It has been adapted with a few subtle modern touches for contemporary playing comfort such as the "modern C" neck profile, 9.5" fingerboard radius plus three custom Jaguar single-coil pickups with notched "claw" shielding.

Other features include the model's classic 30" scale (standard tuning one octave lower than a guitar), maple neck, bound rosewood fingerboard with 21 medium jumbo frets and pearloid block inlays, four two-position slider switches (on/off switch for each pickup and one bass-cut "strangle" tone circuit switch), tortoiseshell pickguard, two black plastic control knobs (master volume, master tone), and vintage-style six-saddle bridge with non-locking floating vibrato. The Vintage Modified Bass VI is finished with a smart Olympic White finish and is a perfect addition to any Squier fananatic's collection.

The particular instrument I received had been put together badly - the bridge is attached to the body slightly off centre meaning the high E string constantly slips off the neck whilst trying to play it. If it had been checked for a second by sellers it would have been noticed straight away. It should not have passed quality control and now I have to go through the rigmarole of sorting a replacement.

I'm delighted with the bass. I knew what I was buying having worked with Fender VI players in the 70's. The quality is excellent and it came out of the box set up perfectly. Can't believe how low the action is. If you're a guitarist who wants to double on bass this is it. Sounds great like a Fender bass but plays like a guitar.
