Z-ED Mesh 3 Triple Ply Drum Head (14in) Overview

The Z-ED range features mesh heads for practice or triggering, budget priced heads for snare drum together with tom and bass drum heads in gloss white or black. These are very popular as resonant and front bass drum heads, but can also be used for batter/playing side.

Roland mesh heads are the best I have come across, but are not cheap. Remo Silentstroke heads are also good quality, if a tiny bit pingy, However, for a cheaper alternative, I have been really pleased with this Z-ED triple ply head so far. The triple ply makes the heads durable so they should be able to take a good beating, but also has an additional muffling effect, so the sound is quite dry. I am using them for quiet practice on acoustic drums. Snare drums sound fairly horrible with mesh heads on for practice, but with snares off, the effect of multiple plies adds a bit of buzz that substitutes for the missing snares. Response is as good as other more pricy mesh heads when the tension is cranked up, although tension rods do seem to loosen more quickly than with a normal head; but that's just a minor gripe. So far, very good value for money.
