Here we have a a pre owned, Fender Custom Shop Master Built Dennis Galuska 1960 Tele Custom in Heavy Relic Olympic White. Obviously, this being a Master Built instrument, it is top of the line: you expect something special and unique and this guitar delivers! I have been lucky enough to play a few of Dennis's guitars - he certainly knows Telecasters and, in fact, he has built some of the best Tele's I have ever played.
This is a wonderful take on an early 1960s "Slab Board" edge bound, Custom Telecaster (with some unique touches!). He has opted for a beautiful, faded Olympic White but - unusually - with black double edge binding and a black three ply scratch plate! I think this works really well and will really stand out on stage! The Relic work on this guitar is typical master build quality and the lacquer checking here is very authentic. The neck is a chunky, C-shape profile typical of this era and he has worn the finish back to a wonderful worn-in but cared-for feel. Even before plugging this guitar in you get that feeling you know it will sound amazing because it has a great resonance acoustically and has a great weight at only 7.1 pounds.
On the bridge pickup (in this case, a hot Broadcaster pickup) it has all the Tele tone you want and then some! Really clear and bright without cutting your head off and tons of sustain - no compressor needed here! With a little drive you are into bold rock territory with fat mids for a great rhythm or lead sound. In the middle position (my favourite) you get all the quacky, vocal quality you want that makes country licks sound great even if you can't play like Brad Paisley. Switching to the neck (a Twisted Tele here) you get that Strat vibe straight away. These pickups use a taller magnet than normal, eliminating the thin neck pickup sound associated with some Telecasters, in conjunction with the incredibly high quality of woods and Master Build attention to detail all in all a very special instrument at a great price.
