Fender Player Jaguar Bass Tidepool Maple Overview

Fender Player Jaguar Bass Tidepool Maple

Designed for bass players the world over who are into classic style and design, versatile and lush sounds, as well as exceptional value for money. The Player Series Jaguar Bass has all the hallmarks of a classic offset bass, great curves, distinctive tonality allowing the player's character to shine through, contemporary and time honoured historical features like the spaghetti logo and Fender designed pickups. As well as performance orientated modern upgrades like gloss fronted/satin backed necks, synthetic bone nuts, and P/J configuration.

For affordable and time tested tone it doesn't get much better than the Player Series. All Player Series feature modern "C" Profile Necks with a 9.5" Radius, Medium Jumbo Frets. All the pickups in the series have been re-designed by Tim Shaw featuring pickups that typically have a rich tone with a mid-range bump, higher output, increased bass, and a very clear high-end.

A really good, affordable bass guitar for all levels of player, just as Leo intended.

As the Jaguar Bass is a PJ hybrid, I was hoping for something different from this recent release. The two volumes as per a Jazz Bass never really worked for me - a master volume and a blend control would be a more effective implementation and the tone control is somewhat ineffectual. The wiring of two-volumes together simply doesn't work unless you run them in parallel. I also thought I would get a one-piece maple neck as it is a MN version, but sadly it's a maple cap over a maple neck with unrounded edges. The guitar also needed a serious set-up out of the box to get it playing properly. It's saving grace is its colour Tidepool, which is a lightened Lake Placid Blue with a subtle sparkle. Otherwise its a Jazz Bass in a Jaguar body with an oversized pickguard. Squier did a more interesting job with their Jaguar Classic Vibe model at almost half the price. Mexican Fenders may still be cheaper than USA equivalents, but this model does not represent good value, although GAK's price-point is very competitive as expected. With there being a lot of competition from cloners, I was disappointed this time, so still looking.
