Ibanez RG550, 1993, Candy Apple Red, Second-Hand Overview
F3... Serial Number Made in Fuiigen Factory 1993!
Introduced in 1987, the RG550 stands as a cornerstone of the Ibanez RG series, initially emerging as part of the Roadstar Deluxe lineup before transitioning into the RG series.
Designed with input from guitar virtuoso Steve Vai, the RG550 was crafted as an affordable alternative to Vai’s signature JEM777 model. While sharing the same basic design and dimensions as the JEM, the RG550 omitted some of the JEM’s distinctive features like the monkey grip and lion’s claw tremolo rout, aiming to enhance distinctiveness while streamlining production costs.
Constructed with a basswood body and a thin maple neck, the RG550 boasts a double-locking Floyd Rose-style tremolo bridge. Unlike the JEM’s DiMarzio pickups, the RG550 is outfitted with a DiMarzio Evolution DP2152 in the bridge position and a DP151F PAF Pro in the neck position. Additionally, the RG550 features simple dot fretboard inlays in contrast to the JEM’s disappearing pyramid inlays.
The guitar is in good condition.
