Epiphone Original Casino, Vintage Sunburst (2023 Spec) Overview
Since 1961, the Epiphone Casino has gained legendary status as Epiphone’s best-selling archtop. Its iconic design, versatile sound, and association with renowned musicians have solidified its place as a rock ‘n’ roll standard.
Embraced by Icons
The Casino was introduced in 1961 as part of a series of new thinline archtop guitars produced at Epiphone’s newly adopted factory in Kalamazoo, Michigan. This factory was shared with Gibson, a former competitor turned partner. The Casino quickly stood out among its peers, showcasing exceptional craftsmanship and tonal capabilities. The Casino was adopted by Keith Richards of The Rolling Stones who used a Casino to record the demo for “Satisfaction” at Chess Records in Chicago. Howlin’ Wolf took a Casino on his first tour of the UK, appearing on Thank Your Lucky Stars. Shortly afterward, John Lennon and George Harrison bought Casinos for the Beatles’ 1966 world tour.
Design and Features
The Epiphone Casino boasts a 5-ply maple body, which contributes to its resonance and rich tonal character. The layered maple ensures a lightweight and comfortable playing experience, ideal for extended live performances.
The neck of the Casino is crafted from mahogany, providing stability and durability. It features a SlimTaper™ 60s C profile, offering a fast and comfortable playing experience for guitarists of all styles.
With a nut width of 1.69" (43mm), the Casino offers a familiar feel that accommodates different playing preferences. The fingerboard is made from Indian Laurel, known for its smooth texture and rich appearance.
Equipped with Dogear PRO P-90 pickups, the Casino delivers a versatile range of tones. These pickups capture the nuances of your playing, providing clarity, warmth, and vintage-style grit. The combination of two volume controls and two tone controls allows for precise tonal shaping.
