Ernie Ball 6183 Expression Overdrive Pedal
The Ernie Ball Expression Overdrive delivers natural tube-like overdrive with more range than ever before. It features settings for drive, boost and tone, with a foot-sweepable overdrive control, making it effortless to go from clean to searing lead tones and everything in between, all without taking your hands off the guitar.
I'll get the irrelevant stuff out of the way - the packaging is very attractive indeed, as is the pedal. But more importantly, the overdrive has a very appealing, smooth tubey fuzz when maxed out, and you can scale that back to a pleasing rhythm guitar crunch, or pure clean, on the fly. Being able to ease in and out of full drive to full crystal clean, without having to faff about with volume knobs, is absolutely brilliant, and the reason I took a punt on a fairly pricey overdrive pedal. The buffered bypass sounds perfectly acceptable to my ear - I can't tell the difference between my clean tone with the pedal in or out of the chain. Some may have more sensitive ears. Assuming the kevlar cords that attach the circuitry to the box's moving pedal remain durable, then I couldn't be happier with this far superior alternative to the standard on/off stomp box. Very happy indeed, so far.
